Free Music Review: uriah heep millennium style

These millennium discs are starting to drive me nuts! While I enjoy the songs on this one, and actually think they did a good job capturing Uriah Heep's better moments, we can't forget these compilation discs are NEVER complete, and once again, I can think of several Uriah Heep songs that are worth putting on this album that, for some reason or another, didn't make the cut. To me that's inexcusable.
I never understood the popularity of "Gypsy". While the solo in the middle is okay by me, the power chords that dominate the rest of the song are really far-fetched and come off sounding WAY too clumsy and simple. However, ignoring that track, "Come Away Melinda" is the bands most haunting ballad ever (and I mean "haunting" literally since the first time I heard this song was while watching a show on real ghost activity). "July Morning" is NOT a poor imitation of Deep Purple's "Child In Time". Both songs deserve to be heard and loved.
"High Priestess" is a surprise feature if you ask me. I'm glad they decided to put that one on here. "Lady in Black" is a simple, but hooky and pleasant piece of writing, and "Circle of Hands" is a song that couldn't have been written in ANY other decade but the 70's. That's a fact. About as soulful as they come. Worth picking up and owning.
