Free Music Notes for Confessions

Free Music Review: Good not excellent...
Hit: 4 Stars

Usher is a good CD I think he has grown up in terms of his music style but he is also just still Usher. And by saying he is just Usher I mean he is highly over played and over-rated. This CD is good and has some great songs on it but it is not special in anyway. I actually had to listen to the other songs that were not singles a few times to even really like them. I was hoping Usher was going to go more of the club route when I first heard "Yeah", but most of the songs are slow ballads and not real danceable. I usually listen to this CD when I want slow music or just to go to sleep. It is good but not excellent as it is deemed.

Free Music Review: After YEAH, the rest is downhill
Hit: 1 Stars

I feel ripped off like I did with the Beyonce album. YEAH is a fun, energetic song, and I bought the album based on that. What a let down! Usher, confess that you tricked people into buying a lukewarm R&B album (Alicia Keys knows the current landscape better) by putting a slamming Hip Hop song out front.

Beyonce pulled the same prank, giving us ONE jamming song "Crazy in Love" and then every other song is much slower tempo.

Either do R&B or do hip hop on your album, but don't have the first single from the album be hip hop and then bore me with the rest of an R&B album.

I want my money back.

Free Music Review: Nothing very special about Usher or this album
Hit: 3 Stars

CONFESSIONS was my first sustained exposure to Usher, and I have to say that his singing voice overall strikes me as rather bland. Sure, he has a nice voice, and he sings well all throughout the album. But to me, that's all Usher has---a nice voice. (That and a hot bod, about which the CD booklet never fails to remind you.) Usher is not a singer to be torn apart with raw emotion by the words he sings, the way Alicia Keys is on her great single "If I Ain't Got You." In other words, what I think Usher lacks in his singing is personality. For all his wailing and crooning, Usher rarely ever penetrates to the heart of the songs that he sings; his voice remains pretty only on the surface. (I am almost tempted to say that Usher is to R&B what Herbert von Karajan was to classical music: Karajan, in his conducting, sometimes seemed concerned with sheer beauty of sound rather than highlighting a piece's emotional content; so, at times, is Usher.)

The songs on this CD aren't bad, though. Obviously "Yeah!" sticks out, because it is the only dance track on the album (and it has been played so many times on the radio). And personally, I also enjoyed the two sexually suggestive cuts in a row, "That's What It's Made For" and "Can You Handle It?" All three of the tracks, for me, show Usher at his best on this album, as does the spoken parts of "Confessions" and "Confessions Pt. 2," where he, for once, displays real desperation as he discovers, to his unpleasant surprise, that he is about to be a father. Still, perhaps a more distinctive artist would have made much more with the rest of the songs, which are all pleasant but not very memorable.

In short, CONFESSIONS has some nice tunes and pretty singing, but, in the end, there is nothing very special about Usher or this album.

Free Music Review: A must have CD for any R&B fan
Hit: 5 Stars

I am not one to like a singer just because everyone else is! Such as Eminem, 50 cent (love his new single candy shop), Brittney Spears, and Ashanti. But Usher really made an excellent record! This album will be rememebered as the Cd that excelled Usher into superstar status where practically every American has heard of him.
The only songs that really don't fit are Follow Me and Take your hand which are the last 2 songs.
I wish I had special edition for Confessions part 1 and My boo but oh well(why pay 19 bucks for 5 extra track?). Also Usher is suprisingly excellent on the slow jams which his voice just tears the song up!
Highlights are Throwback, Caught Up, Superstar, Do it to me, Can you handle it, and That's what its made for.
I didn't include Usher's big 3 singles because I am SOO tired of hearing them but they are still good.
Bottom line: Usher is right now the hottest thing in music for a reason. See why its his MUSIC.
