Free Music Review: What's both right & wrong with today's R&B
Hit: 3 Stars

Don't get me wrong. I do believe Usher has talent. He can sing and dance his ass off ... unlike several wannabes coming out behind him.

But his whole hustle is just getting so stale and predictable to me.

For all I know he recorded every single one of his albums he's put out so far in the same studio session back in the mid-1990s. I like a lot of his songs, but I just don't see any attempts at versatility from him.

"Nice-and-slow," "U Don't Have to Call," "Yeah" and "My Boo" just sound like they're all the same album to me. He's been out way too long to just be coming at us the same way.

Look at Mary J. Blige ... God love her, say whatever you want about her singing and her style, but her first album "What's the 4-1-1" with its Friday night, house party feel was NOTHING LIKE the bluesy, heartachy "My Life" which was nothing like the radio friendly, hip hop & R&B packaged "Share My World" which was NOTHING LIKE the pop-inspired though uneven "No More Drama."

I'd just like to see him break out of that predictable, overexposed-type of R&B singing.

Summer turns to fall, the joints get weak and before you know it (like James Brown), some new jack who relates to a younger audience will come up just like that and take Usher's spot.

I'd just as soon listen to Sisqo, Case or Brian McKnight who can sing better than Usher or Ginuwine who can outdance Usher.

But where are their careers now? No versatility = Short shelf life.

Usher step your game up.

Free Music Review: No lyrical meaning
Hit: 1 Stars

This album is all about sex and infidelity, is this all way Usher's life is about. This album contains to substance worth listening to. This album is a total waste of money. I like 8701 100 percent better.

Free Music Review: Needs more dance hits
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a good cd. "Burn" "Yeah" "Confession" "Caught Up" are obviously the standouts, and they do not tire easily. The rest very enjoyable but don't quite have the staying power. My disappointment is that there are only two dance songs, and those are the most enjoyable. Since Usher is such a great dancer, I wonder why his album is overwhelmingly crooning, seems it would limit him in concerts.

Free Music Review: Coming At Ya Personal
Hit: 4 Stars

Most artists don't wanna come out with personal things bout their relationships until they're like 40 years old. But Usher at 26 comes at ya with his personal life and how he gets down on this album. Songs like "Confessions", "Throwback", "Burn", "Simple Things" are songs that shows he's letting out that personal side on the real. Then, of course, he comes out with his sexual/playa songs like "Bad Girl", "That's What It's Made 4", and "Superstar". I just loved this album it's the best ever in his career.

Free Music Review: Could be better
Hit: 3 Stars

After hearing the singles "Yeah" and "Burn" and "Confessions Part II" butchered by overplay on the radio, I was expecting the same standard of catchy, hook-laden music when I bought Confessions.

Unfortunately, it falls into the same trap as so many other R&B CDs: a couple awesome hits, but many more misses. The rest of the songs on the album are a grade below the singles, lacking direction and meandering. The shape of the album starts promising but then goes downhill, starting off with the big singles, becoming average in the middle and eventually degenerating by the end. I never got the point of interludes either. If it's not a whole song, then it's filler!

The best songs on this CD are the 3 big singles of course, with "Superstar" and "Simple Things" coming close to the standard. But 5 good tracks out of 17 is not a good hit rate. Sorry Usher, I love your dance moves, I love your music videos, I love your radio hits, but I was disappointed to not get the same standard from the album.
