Free Music Notes for ConfessionsFree Music Review: I'm trying to debate 1 star or 2 stars Hit: 2 StarsI love Usher, I really do. I was a fan of his when he first came out, when NO ONE knew him. I love My Way...LOVED 8701, his best piece of work to date...so naturally, I ran out, got Confessions. I WAS SOOOO DISAPPOINTED. I like Throwback and Caught Up but after that, it was just a waste of time and money. (And NO this CD is NOT better than Justified!!). I don't care how much it sold in the first week, I don't care if it goes diamond. I mean so did Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer!! This cd was PURE GARBAGE. Usher needs to come off of his HIGH HAT and come out with a better CD that that Confessions garbage...
Free Music Review: Hot guy, Hot CD, ENORMOUS EGO!!!! Hit: 5 StarsHe's hot, the album's hot, and probably the only CD in awhile that i could listen to from start to finish. If u like great R&B I suggest u cop this CD. For those of you like myself, who don't like supporting self-glorifying idiots(even if they r sexy as hell) but still love great R&B, I suggest u my friend, cop a bootleg.
Dis dude is way to cocky, way to arrogant, and way 2 full of himself, which is exactly why I for one promote illegal downloading. When you worked so hard and have finally become so successful, u should always be gracious about it and just appreciate it. But no, he's goin around talking about I deserved this a long time ago and rippin his shirt off every 5 minutes when it isn't even neccessary, and just bein a big freakin of-course-i'm-modest-&-don't-think-i'm-the-sexiest-man-in-the-world-i'm-only-half-naked-everytime-u-see-me show off, i don't think he deserves a dime of my money. Which is exactly why I bought a bootleg for $3 bucks. (Yeah, yeah, we gotta pay the people who make the CDs. That's why i'm telling YOU to buy the CD!)
Free Music Review: OVERRATED Hit: 2 StarsI looked forward to this CD after 8701.
Disappointment.
Though Usher's voice is still as smooth and sweet as ice-cream, the material, particularly the ballads, are yawn-inducing bores. The only songs that shined were TAKE YOUR HAND and FOLLOW ME, the last two songs on the CD. It's a drag to buy and listen through a whole album to find two good songs. In addition, I found Usher, both the persona or that actual artist, quite unlikable. The song CONFESSIONS begin with his assertion of being a man and confessing that he cheated on his partner; I don't think a "real" man, a man of integrity, would have cheated in the first place! Too, Usher thanks God in his liner notes, claiming "My creativity, my drive and abilities are unmatched." That lack of humility turned me off, big time.
Obviously there are many others that disagree based on the sales of this, but I would highly recommend that someone preview it before buying.
Free Music Review: Yeah! Hit: 5 StarsThe year was 2004. The year was Usher. The year was "Yeah". That year was the biggest in Usher's music career. Years had passed since the previous artist had as much or more success in one year ('N Sync, 2000). Nobody could avoid hearing him on the radio, especially the club anthem "Yeah" with 'Lil Jon and Ludacris. His name was everywhere in the media. Most of this was because of his album "Confessions". This has been rightfully hailed as the best recording of his career. This proves that beyond the tight abs, his sexuality, and his unique dance moves is a true R&B musician, a rarity in modern-day mainstream. He later garnered eight Grammy nominations including Album of the Year and Record of the Year ("Yeah"), winning three (Best Contemporary Album, Best R&B Performance by a Group, Duo, or Band ["My Boo"], and Best Rap/ Sung Performance ["Yeah"]).
Though many say that he's overplayed, this is quality work of an artist of an R&B legend in the making. "Confessions" declares him officially a man instead of a teeny-bopper as he was labeled before the release. This album signified him as a highly respected true artist, not just a sex symbol, compared to his two other albums "My Way" (1997) and "8701 (2001). Though they are also great, he seems to have found his true individual style during this album. Though not all of his words are his true "confessions", they still dig deeper into his personal life compared to his previous work. Most explore his publicized break-up with longtime girlfriend Rolanda "Chili" Thomas (TLC) and his admitted mistakes. They are accompanied by infectious, catchy R&B grooves. Whether they are upbeat, party, or ballad, they remain at their potential. Most of the music and the lyrics were written by Usher.
"Confessions" begins with the most played song of the year and the biggest in his career "Yeah" (not counting the intro). This is the only song written by 'Lil Jon that contains true party hopping quality. This takes crunk music to a new level. Despite this song overshadowing as the only upbeat song in the album, this blends wonderfully with the remaining album. The addicting repetitive eight-note contermelody surprisingly sustains its momentum throughout. Occassionally, other melodies arise to add to the dance flavor. This wonderfully gears up for the upcoming songs. He propelled four other hit singles from this album ("My Boo" with Alicia Keys is featured on the special edition).
Through his upbeat songs ("Caught Up") and his ballads ("Burn"), his performances maintain his true potential as an artist. His vocal patterns change to wonderfully blend with the individual song theme. He's soulful when necessary. He's outgoing when necessary. He beautifully expresses his personal "confessions". Those "non-confessions" are sung beautifully as if they were his true ones. Through the album, his expressed passion never fades. His level of talent proves that his legendary status will go far, and that he'll continue evolving wonderfully as an artist.
Such overall music quality makes "Confessions" an essential to Usher and R&B fans. Though Ray Charles rightfully won the Grammy for Album of the Year over Usher, this destined classic will surely continue pleasing listeners as it has already. Other albums that fans may like are Beyonce's "Dangerously In Love", Alicia Keys's "The Diary of Alicia Keys", Brandy's "Afrodisiac", and Musiq's "Juslisen".
Free Music Review: I'm Like... Hit: 1 StarsOh my gosh, why is everyone so wrapped up in this guy? He is sooo weak musically. I cannot believe all the hype(and I do mean hype) surrounding this dude. He deserves like 10 wiggedy's and 10 whacks. I am too through.
