Free Music Notes for Futureperfect AlbumFree Music Review: Easily VNV's Worst Hit: 1 StarsThis is barely even a shadow of earlier works like Praise the Fallen. The hard, uncompromising edge that practically defined VNV Nation is gone from this CD. Gone from the lyrics, gone from the vocals, and gone from the music. The remains are a sad parody of the group's former greatness. There are glimpses of the former VNV. Electronaut is a decent instrumental, while Genesis and Beloved show flickers of the brilliance shown in earlier CDs, but flickers is all they are. They pale in comparison to older tracks like Joy and Rubicon. Epicentre and Fearless show just how far VNV has wandered from the path. The lyrics seem uninspired, the sound is careless, and the vocals are surprisingly strained. Structure, on the other hand, sounds like a failed experiment in noise creation that only got onto the CD by accident. Maybe VNV decided they could slack off after three good CDs, or maybe they wanted to experiment with going in a new direction. Whatever it was, this CD is one to avoid for fans of their earlier works.
