Free Music Review: sick
Hit: 5 Stars

His debut was one of my favorite albums in probably a decade. I picked this one up soon after it dropped. Where "The Darkest Cloud" seemed more boom-bap, this one came off to me as being more Melodic. I guess I wasn't in the right mood and it didn't do much for me. I recently pulled it out and listened to it more. Well, I was wrong back then, I don't think I could have been any more wrong. This album is *almost* perfect. Maybe not the best beats or lyrics ever, but close to the best combination. This album should be considered every bit as classic as Illmatic. A bold statement but the absolute truth. I like lyricists, Chino XL, Lord Finesse, Ras Kass, Kane, Masta Ace, Jean Grae. Vakill at his best can stand with anyone on the microphone. What sets him apart even more though is his ability to switch it up. He has some of the SICKEST punchline laced battle raps you'll ever hear, his metaphors and smilies are world class and will make your jaw drop. But he is also capable of dropping some of the most amazingly introspective lyrics you'll ever hear. And his story telling abilities are bar none the best. He is a complete emcee on every level. And Mole men providing all the beats keep the music nice and solid. He's a hard dude to quote to show off his skills, because so much of what he says will boggle the mind. I've listened to this album 50 times and I still notice I'm hearing things I didn't hear/understand before. "When is the last time" one of the best introspective tracks I've ever listened to. And it's just that much better with the perfect melodic beat behind it. One line that sticks out "and if so be it hammers won't hesitate, patients is a virtue/that can six feet dirt you/and have your spirit leaving earth/and what's even worse/a lot stop breathing before they mastered breathing first" quoted it's good but you have to hear the entire song to understand the insane depth this guy goes to paint a picture.
Va is better than your favorite rapper, I don't care who it is, or how many records they've sold. If skills determined your spot in the game, Va would constantly be on 106 & Park & TRL. There are a few down sides, one he sometimes tries too hard to cram too many words into a line. He can be hard to follow, but the upside to this you can hear the same verse 100 times and still go "OH S**T!" when you discover a new metaphor. There are lots of layers to his words so you really have to listen to catch what he's saying. This isn't a casual album, focus when you listen and you'll be left smiling. It really doesn't make any damn sense how gifted he is with words. He drops a lot of knowledge and makes you think. Which is something lacking in a lot of hip-hop today. His message is clear I just wish more people would hear it, it's a shame VA will probably never get the recognition he deserves. He's as good as Jay, Nas, pick any emcee. This album is proof he can make an almost classic album too.

Worst Fears Confirmed Poster

His first release gained him critical praise from trade publications and fans alike. Discussions on his MC skill began to light up on internet message boards all over the world. A one month European tour was warranted to support his project and meet his new found popularity overseas. Upon his return, Vakill was determined to work on next release with the same strict guidelines as his first. On his sophomore release, Worst Fears Confirmed , Vakill brings to light what his freshman release foreshadowed. The sickest MC returns to solidify his legacy that reaches back to the early days of Chicago Hip Hop. As far as lyrics were concerned, the crown wasn t about to move. Vakill paints vivid pictures on a sonic canvas provided by fellow crew members the Molemen. As his lyrics game stepped up, so did the Molemen s production approach. Illustrious samples alongside keyboard and acoustic accompaniments make this the best sounding project to date. The words described the settings while the music sets the mood. The cinematic result is a ride through the cold streets of Chicago. Worst Fears Confirmed is an opus written from the complex mind of Vakill, who s uncompromising skill raises the bar in a time when lyricism is at a decline. Produced and overseen by Molemen Inc, the album adds to the indigenous sound of Chicago for the world to take note. The warning came and went, and now this is the storm coming to wash away the scum.
