Valient Thorr isn't completely original, but who is? After all, cultural and artistic progression is achieved by building on the works of others. Valient Thorr adds a slightly modern flavor (and sci-fi vibe) to what basically sounds like MC5 rock. A sort of punk/70s rock vibe. The swagger of Thin Lizzy with the power of punk. An interesting mix. It's not for everyone, I was skeptical, but after seeing/hearing "Man Behind the Counter" I was hooked (the video is entertaining, I look forward to seeing them in a few weeks). There is even a little bit of guitar doubling/dueling between the two guitarists, akin to Kirk Hammet and James Hetfield (for example, the double riff on "For Whom The Bell Tolls"). The vocals are really good, full of conviction and variety. The drums and bass are less in the forefront, but the rythm section is solid. While it maintains the "cock rock" vibe, the bass is audible (unlike alot of AC/DC). The drums are good, they just don't slide to the front of the mix, but it sounds good! Recommended.
