Wahrscheinlich werden Vampire Weekend auch mit ihrem Deb?talbum nicht den verbreiteten Eindruck aus der Welt schaffen k?nnen, dass sie es bisher zu leicht hatten. Da gr?nden ein paar Jungs im Studentenwohnheim der elit?ren Columbia University eine Band, bedienen sich ausgiebig bei Afrobeat und der kantigen Musik der Achtziger und avancieren damit doch tats?chlich innerhalb k?rzester Zeit zu einem Online-Ph?nomen, bevor sie ein einziges Album herausgebracht haben. Gl?cklicherweise macht ihr Erstlingswerk aber wirklich Spa?--wie auch Band an sich: verspielt und mit genug Ideen und Pop-Sachverstand, um sich gekonnt und glaubhaft zu pr?sentieren. Die oft orgel- und schlagzeugbetonte Musik l?sst an eine schr?gere, besser gelaunte Ausgabe von Clinic mit einer bunter gemischten Plattensammlung denken. In einem Song, der den hervorragenden Titel "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" tr?gt (und noch besser als sein Titel ist), stellt die Band die Frage "Does it feel so unnatural / To Peter Gabriel too?" und kommt so frech und selbstironisch jeglicher Kritik an ihren postmodernen bzw. postkolonialen Weltmusikanleihen zuvor.
