Free Music Notes for Vampire WeekendFree Music Review: Look Out!!! This band could go places. Hit: 5 Stars
I didn't hear about this band until today. I saw the CD at Target and skipped over it because I had no idea who they were. Then as I was watching E! News, I heard a review of the album and how Chris Martin of Coldplay fame was a big fan. I thought, how could I go wrong? After listening to the samples of the songs on this site, I went back out to by it just before Target closed. After listening to the first few tracks, I feel this band could really go somewhere if they can get any airplay on the independent stations around the country. The CD seems to be fairly short though, so get it while it is still under $10. I can't wait to see where this band goes!!!!!!!
Free Music Review: Love It!! Hit: 5 Stars
i've read both sides of the spectrum....frankly i freaking love this album and cant wait til Jan for the new release!! Was hooked 1st time i herad "A Punk", not to mention my 3 yr old begs me to jam it as soon as we get in the Element. I wouldnt say its totally original but they do show signs of sum originality. If you like these doods try and pick up Talking Heads album "speaking in tongues" or Paul Simon "Graceland" and even Peter, Bjorn, and Johns good album!! Writers Block....feel as if they infuse above mentioned together as well as a twist of their own. If this wasnt helpful sorry....it jus means yer lame!!
Free Music Review: Cetainly the most fun and original album in a long time Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this album based on all the hype with no expectations. I have to say that this is one of the rare cases where the music lives up to the hype. Not only is it different from anything I've heard recently but it is also quite accessible. I'm no fan of Paul Simon, but VW sounds nothing like him to me. Anyway that's not how I listen to music. I am a fan of bands like Interpol, Bjork, Raconteurs, and R.E.M. If you want something that sounds like everything else on the radio then check out Britney Spears. Otherwise for something fun, catchy, and original give Vampire Weekend a listen.
Free Music Review: Product of the Music Industry? Hit: 5 Stars
So, why do "the haters" think that Vampire Weekend is simply a product of music marketing executives? Last I checked, the band is a product of four guys who play instruments and make catchy songs.
They are popular for a reason, and the reason is that they make good songs that aren't too obscurely indie, nor are they too mainstream. It's music that everyone can enjoy and is not directed toward any specific demographic of "the indie music world".
Take it for what it is - a good album packed with upbeat songs and catchy hooks. Easily puts anyone in a good mood.
Free Music Review: sheer fun Hit: 5 Stars
Not crazy about many contemporary bands, I heard one song of VW on radio & chased it down. It's one of my favorites....bright, melodic, rhythmic. It's hard to sit still listening to it.I can hear the lyrics, but I don't understand them & I don't care. I've bought extra albums for friends & every one has said, "I adore this!"even though they have no clue about the NY references. I would advise the band not to label itself (self-described as "Upper West Side Soweto") because that will limit it in people's minds.
