Free Music Notes for 1984Free Music Review: Hot... Hit: 4 StarsHot for Teacher. 1 of the best rock songs ever recorded. Enough said.
Free Music Review: How is it everyone loves this album? Hit: 1 StarsI bought this album after good recommendation, and it was a waste of money. Panama's the only good song. Jump, their #1 single, is actually the worst song here. Everything else is subpar. Hot for Teacher is okay, but I'll Wait, Top Jimmy, and Drop Dead Legs are very overappreciated. Giving this album 1/5 is an exagerration, and you people should be ashamed of yourself for finding enjoyment in this album. This is easily their worst (and yes, I'm including the disgraceful Van Halen 3 in that statement). Thank goodness they kicked out DLR, Sammy's better (I'm ready to back up that comment).
Free Music Review: A Metal High Hit: 5 StarsI've heard of Van Halen before. They were apparently some type of hard rock / metal band. I might have heard their stuff on the radio before, but I didn't know it was them. Then, while playing Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2, this wicked ass song kicks in. My brother says, "there's your Van Halen." Wicked riffs, insane harmonics, and godlike vocals hooked me to this amazing song. I bought this album soon afterwards which contained that awesome song, that I later found out was "Panama." Some tunes were familiar to me; "Jump" and "I'll Wait" were the most familiar. I didn't know these guys did synthesize pop, but it was good. Everything else, besides the "1984" intro, is wicked in-your-face metal. "Top Jimmy" and "Drop Dead Legs" are every bit as good as "Panama." "Hot for Teacher" is a little too white trash for my taste. Besides that, I love every second of this album! Highly recommended!
Free Music Review: Good one but with some annoying keyboards(besides "1984"). Hit: 4 StarsWell, this is short album - like all made with Roth, only few minutes over half an hour.
It combines some typical VH tunes with synth-based songs.
1 1984 - First keyboards and in fact only one interesting synth track here, too short, Ed could made longer version of it - 8/10
2 Jump - one of the worst VH songs, Van Halen is known mostly because this one, so too bad - 3/10
3 Panama - classic riff for VH, nice song with sound of chain saw in the middle -8/10
4 Top Jimmy - one of the best on this album, fast and smooth pop rock song with nice chorus and GREAT solo, great intro too. 10/10
5 Drop dead legs - it's slow guitar track with long solo at the end, just excuse for Ed to solo?? 7/10
6 Hot for teacher - super drum/guitar intro, very fast song with nice climat of joy -9/10
7 I'll Wait -another keyboard based song nothing interesting besides Alex jazzy drums in the beginning. 4/10
8 Girl gone bad - This is where album really kicks off - good hard rock tune with cool solo -10/10
9 House of Pain - Best song on this album - closest to heavy metal, very melodic. Very good riff, dark climat, nice screams by Roth, and beautiful two part solo. Jam-like ending of this song is interesting while Roth sings rhytmically to guitars. 10/10
Free Music Review: The last from the original line up Hit: 5 StarsBefore Eddie and Alex decided to kick David Lee Roth out of the band they released 1984. And all was well with the world. This album produced a number of classic moments for the 'big 80's':
- great and fun videos, along with top charting songs.
- Eddie on keyboards enhancing his already awesome rhythm lines on the incredible 'Jump'.
- 'Panama' - a tour de force of guitar and Roth vocal silliness that pushed it right over the top and into maximum MTV rotation.
No one could touch this band in 1984 and this album still stands up. That is if you like shredding guitar, screaming vocals, and hit singles.
Then Eddie and Alex supposedly grew tired of Roth and his goofy actions and kicked him out of the band and went with Sammy Hagar, who did a credible job for a number of years until Eddie and Alex kicked him out of the band.
If you want to know what all the fuss was about in the early to mid-80's then pick this cd up.
Then pick up the earlier releases - most notably VH 1 and VH 2. Then move on the Hagar material. It's not bad - just not as good as 1984 or anything that came before it.
