Free Music Notes for 1984

Free Music Review: Top album
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a great album. Jump is an 80's pop song but despite it being so synth-heavy, it's driving riff makes it a great cut. Panama also has an awesome riff and Top Jimmy Rocks!
My favourite tracks come near the end of the album. Not that they're the best tracks, just my favourites. 'I'll wait' is a look at porno mags, but is it in praise of them or more an objective look? Musically it's synth-heavy and kind of mysterious, but awesome! Then 'Girl Gone bad' is one awesome track but again, mysterious. It's off-key melody and driving rhythm make it really something. It's an updated of version of 'Light up the sky' perhaps?
House of pain full on rocks, but is much darker than what you usually expect from Diamond Dave. However, tracks like 'Hot for teacher' and 'Drop dead legs' recapture the themes of earlier Van Halen, there's some interesting and witty lines in 'Hot for teacher'.

This album is a good combination of more mysterious numbers and good, driving rock. A great album from Van Halen.

Free Music Review: One of the most fun albums ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is easily Van Halens best. And it is quite honestly a masterpiece. Ever song grows on you and is just super fun to listen to on on warm sunny day. It is exactly what a great album should be. I love Appetite For Destruction, Kill Em' All, Vulgar Display Of Power, Core, Tragic Kingdom, Thriller etc... This album fits in between. It is not the best album ever made, but it is awfullly good. If you can only own one Van Halen album, this
must be it. It just rocks! I crank this album up and just step on the gas. It always puts me in a good mood. I cant say that about too many albums....

Free Music Review: My favorite album by my favorite band.
Hit: 5 Stars

Awesome album by an awesome band. They even played keyboards on this album for the first time when they released it.A must have for any VH fan.I also recommend Diver Down,Van Halen,Women and Children First,5150,OU812,F.U.C.K.and Balance.

Free Music Review: Def Leppard... who?
Hit: 5 Stars

Leppard's "Pyromania," "High 'N' Dry" and "On Through the Night" albums rip Van Halen's "1984" to shreds, and everyone knows it, too. It's a well-known fact by now that Eddie Van Halen and the boys were scared of Def Leppard in the early '80s - many bands were. Though Leppard would go on to create shlock themselves, "1984" is quite underwhelming when paired against Leppard's "Pyromania" record.

Face facts, Halen were pretty average, save for Ed's searing guitar.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... wait wait... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Are you kidding me? Def Leppard is a bunch of nancy boys, and their music reflects it. How are those double stroke rolls treating Rick Allen? Oh wait.

"Def" is pretty much the main requirement for appreciating any of Def Leppard's material. Wise up people and realize that Van Halen rules all over Def Leppard, and if you think otherwise, you're probably as dumb as above idiot.

Free Music Review: 3 and 1/2 stars
Hit: 4 Stars

The best material here is among VH's best but the CD is not as uniformly entertaining as Diver Down and VH II. Eddie's playing is incendiary as always but sometimes it sounds more like a technical exercise than one in joyous music making. David Lee sounds like he's having a great time, but "Top Jimmy" moves dangerously close to caricature. "I'll Wait" was a big hit but, in retrospect, sounds like a premonition of the style VH adopted when Sammy Hagar took over as singer. Not saying that's good or bad, take it at face value.

Of course I knew the hits that make up half this CD very well and so, no doubt, do you. But my recent purchase of this CD is the first time I heard all the other songs. I can't really put my finger on it but I just don't get the same kick with this as I did with the earlier DLR-era discs. And, with VH, the kick is what it was all about.
