Free Music Review: Van Halen - 'Fair Warning' (Warner Brothers)
Hit: 5 Stars

Review no.100.Originally unleashed on the music world in 1981.'Fair Warning' was the band's fourth lp.As most fans or even critics would say, some of Eddie's best guitar playing is on this record. All nine tracks totally rock out as only Van Halen knows how to do.Cuts that I often find myself replaying over and over are "Mean Streets","Sinner's Swing","Unchained","So Is This Love?" and especially "Hear About It Later".TURN THIS ONE UP!!

Free Music Review: Vh's 4th
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow, this is a kick ass album! It was one the last Van Halen albums i bought, because I was convinced it was a bad album. this was because there was only one song from it on the greatest hit. Boy, was I wrong.

Maybe with exception for "Push Comes To Shove", this album is spotless. Basically all the different Van Halen DLR era music you want to hear is on this album.

It's very exciting and the song that intrests me the most was the last song "One Foot Out The Door", which has to be heard to be believed. It's quite short, but a really cool song.

I'm giving it 5 stars, because I can't really think of anything bening wrong with this album, so that's why it gets five stars.

Free Music Review: Hard and Heavy
Hit: 5 Stars

Van Halen's fourth album, "Fair Warning"(1981)is very hard and heavy.

According to what Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony have to say, around the time this album was being made was when they had begun having problems with David Lee Roth. Well, if they did, then it shows here, becuase some of the music on here sounds angry- but in this case, that's a good thing. While Van Halen's self-titled 1978 debut album is my favorite out of all Van Halen albums, this album is pretty amazing also. Songs like "Mean Street", "Dirty Movies", "Unchained", etc found Van Halen writing some of their hardest songs, and Eddie Van Halen shreds on this album. This album finds Eddie playing some of his best guitar work, if not his best work ever. David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony shine just as well on here.

From what I've seen, time really hasn't been too kind to this album. I listen to an oldies radio station where I live that does play Van Halen on the radio, and recently, the fifth track on this album, "Unchained" was played on that station. That is the only song off of this album that I have ever heard played on the radio (there are other radio stations I listen to)and the die hard VH fans who own the Van Halen greatest hits albums "The Best of Van Halen: Volume One" and "The Best of Both Worlds" have noticed that that song is the only song from this album that has made it on both of the Van Halen compilations that have been released so far. Maybe Eddie, Alex, Dave, and Mike were too mad at each other when they were making this album, and maybe that is what has given it the low recognition it seems to have gotten. What a lot of people don't know is that around the time this album was being made was when Gene Simmons was unsuccesfully begging Eddie Van Halen to join KISS as a replacement guitarist for Ace Frehley. It is well known that Van Halen's "1984" album is the last album Van Halen ever released with David Lee Roth, and that the guys in VH were at each other's throats when that album was being made. That album turned out great also.

It seems that when a band or a member of the band is in a hard situation, if they make an album, it seems to me that the album turns out really good, because the members/member of the band either release the side of them that is mad or the side of them that is sad (or both). Good examples of what I just mentioned (besides the last three VH albums with David Lee Roth)are KISS' "Revenge" album, the Slaughter album "Back To Reality", and the Warrant album "Ultraphobic". You do the research. You'll find what You're looking for.

One Recommendation: Go out and get this album. It is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free Music Review: Strike That Poor Boy Down
Hit: 5 Stars

I was in grade school when I purchased these recordings on cassette tape back in the very early 80's. I played it so loud it felt like my fillings in my mouth were coming loose. I have not heard these songs in about 7 years , but when I heard them again recently , I forgot how incredible Ed's solos were and how tight the rythym section sounded. One of the best VH recordings out there. If you never listned to VH growing up , get this record. And I quote the great Diamond David Lee Roth. "And somebody said Fair Warning , Loooooooord strike that poor boy down." What an awesome record man.

Free Music Review: the quintessential Van Halen CD
Hit: 5 Stars

In simple terms: this CD rocks like very few other CD's in its genre. There is a darkness and playfullness that intertwine seemlessly. Without question, this is the best Van Halen CD.

There is not one mediocre song. They flow beautifully together. The vocals and guitar work are masterfully done. A music collection would be lacking without the inclusion of "Fair Warning."

In so many ways, this CD fully demonstrates the essence of Rock 'n' Roll. Van Halen was once the master of this art.
