BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, a two-disc set of Van Halen's greatest hits and album tracks, equally splits the songs between those sung by that annoying buffoon David Lee Roth and those fronted by Sammy Hagar, who rightfully believes that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 for drug-smuggling was unjustly convicted; thankfully, the four new songs feature Hagar, not Roth, which makes this set a vast improvement over BEST OF, VOL. 1. People can complain that VH were never the same without Roth, but I don't take any stock in their whimpering and whining, and, in fact, those people don't deserve to waste our oxygen, because Hagar, besides being a better person than Roth, can kick Roth's butt as a singer any day. This is a great set, but you'd be better off buying the first three albums with Hagar instead. Free Music Review: 27 years of hits!

I give this item four stars because there is no booklet with information and lyrics and it doesn't come in a plastic jewel case,that I'm personally accustomed to. These songs do rock though. Van Halen's 1978 self-titled debut brought RUNNIN' WITH THE DEVIL,ERUPTION,the Ray Davies-penned YOU REALLY GOT ME,AIN'T TALKIN' 'BOUT LOVE and JAMIE'S CRYIN'. JC was most recently re-released on the PRIVATE PARTS movie soundtrack in 1997. YRGM was first a hit in 1965 or '66 for Davies' band The Kinks. 1979 saw the release of the follow-up simply entitled VAN HALEN II. Hits from that album contnained in this collection are DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY and BEAUTIFUL GIRLS. This collection could have used the Linda Ronstadt hit YOU'RE NO GOOD. From 1980's WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST are AND THE CRADLE WILL ROCK and EVERYBODY WANTS SOME. From 1981's FAIR WARNING is UNCHAINED. From 1982's DIVER DOWN are covers of the Roy Orbison hit (OH)PRETTY WOMAN and the Martha & The Vandellas hit DANCING IN THE STREET. The multi-platinum 1984 brought JUMP,two versions of PANAMA which is the album version and a live version from 1993's RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW with Sammy Hagar,HOT FOR TEACHER and I'LL WAIT. After the release of 1984,frontman David Lee Roth left the band by the preference of his bandmates and was succeeded by Hagar,who previously had a solo career on the Geffen label. 1986 saw the release of 5150,with Hagar on board. This Warner Bros. album,like the band's predecessors,spawned WHY CAN'T THIS BE LOVE,DREAMS,LOVE WALKS IN and this album's title track. 5150 went multi-platinum also. From 1988's OU812,another megahit, comes WHEN IT'S LOVE and FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED. From UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE,released in 1991,come POUNDCAKE,RUNAROUND,IN AND OUT and TOP OF THE WORLD(not to the confused with the Carpenters' recording which was completely,musically different). From 1995's BALANCE is I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU(not to be confused with the Don Gibson composition made famous by the late Ray Charles). ok great songs but this albums very uneven first off whys there live tracks good tracks but why put them there instead of actual song missing hits include

little guitars
human beings
summer nights
ice cream man
so this is love
abnd many more
some songs that were in the billboard top 100 or 40 didnt even make the list or fn faves all in all weak compilation the new songs are pretty good but not6 classic
