Free Music Notes for Van Halen II

Free Music Review: Very Underrated
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is a VH great with all other DLR series albums. The sophmore album Van Halen II doesen't live up to it's groundbreaking debut, Van Halen, but is still a very respectable recording compared to other music today. The great sounding "Light up the sky" and who can't love the riff in "D.O.A"? Songs like "Dance The Night Away", "Beautiful Girls", "Women In Love" are all soft but still pretty good. "You're No Good" is actually a cover song, I've heard it before from some disco/pop girls and thought it was weird they redid it. But the bass intro in the begining is a great start to the album. Not everyone likes it but it's got the music to demand respect. Another must for all VH fans.

Free Music Review: pretty good!
Hit: 4 Stars

The best work here is Dance the night away/Beautiful Girls
and SBGMAD are the best tracks on here. I think 4 or 5 stars
is alittle too much.... This album doesn't have the hits of
alot of the other albums but it's worth picking up. The two
tracks I posted above make it worthwhile... And Bottoms up!
is a decent track to boot!

Free Music Review: 5th Greatest VH album, but still amazing.
Hit: 5 Stars

Amazing, again Eddie blows a listener away with solos and great riffs enough for everybody in the world to have seconds.

You're No Good(3:17) This song was originally by Heart, not too bad.
Dance the Night Away(3:09) Best VH dance song every written
Somebody Get Me A Doctor(2:53) Heavy, wild, and crazy like rock'n'roll was meant to be.
Bottoms Up(3:07)Average
Outta Love Again(2:53) Just above average
Light Up the Sky(3:12)Drum solo, guitar solo, great song
Spanish Fly(1:02) I believe this is a bass solo or an acoustic guitar solo, good
D.O.A.(4:11) Amazing, DLR is going insane, great son
Women in Love(4:09) Great intro, fine music
Beautiful Girls(3:56) Perfect closer and awesome end chorus, with some surprises by our back door man, DLR

Free Music Review: Another awesome rock guitar album
Hit: 5 Stars

Eddie Van Halen does it again, the new master has taken guitar playing to new heights. In Van Halens first album Eddie showed us how talented he was with the song "Eruption' and the solo in 'You Really got Me', he basically gave a new name to guitar playing with a new very hard technique called "Finger tapping". Diamond Dave may have full of himself on the debut but he still made some pretty good lyrics and did some cool sound effects, his voice, although not that good was overall above average. Michael Anthony also made some pretty sweet basslines that followed Eddies lead and Alex Van Halen was definately a great drummer, I guess it runs in the family.
This album proves that Van Halen can expand their talent and although it wasn't as good as their debut it still was timeless masterpiece. In 'Spanish Fly' Eddie proves that he is also great with acoustics and he truly is one of the greatest guitar players of all time. Some songs like 'Dance the Night Away' and 'Beautiful Girls' showed Van Halens debut side, in other words they were a lot like hits 'Jamies Cryin' and 'Im the One'. My personal favorite though has got to be 'D.O.A.' (Dead or Alive) since it has amazing lyrics by good old Dave and a great riff by Master Eddie Van Halen, the rhythem by Mike and Alex are also worth recognizing. Overall this is not as good as the first but its still chock full of classics.

Free Music Review: Solidified The Van Halen Sound
Hit: 4 Stars

Van Halen II proves that the music wizardry found on the Halen's debut album was not a fluke. Van Halen revolutionized guitar driven rock, and Van Halen II is a must have album that established the band, and proved they were more than just a flash in the pan. You have to have heard all of these songs at one point or another if you grew up in the late 70's and early 80's, and I would be surprised if there are too many folks out there who don't own a copy of this album in some form or another. Overall, Van Halen II is a little more mellow than the debut album. You get the great cover of "You're No Good", "Dance the Night Away" is the biggest hit off the album which follows up, and both are a bit more on the lighter side. Even the instrumental on this disk, "Spanish Fly" is a light little acoustic number. And though there really isn't an "Atomic Punk" like cut on VHII, the album still rocks out. "DOA" and "Light up the Sky" stand out as great early metal classics. "Outta Love Again" actually has Michael Anthony's bass-line emerge from it ususal background status. And "Bottoms Up" and "Beautiful Girls" are still two of the best summer jams around. You can't hear "Beautiful Girls" without wanting to put on some suntan lotion and hit the beach. If you are just discovering Van Halen, or know only the Sammy years, be sure to pick up this early classic. You can't go wrong with Van Halen during the David Lee Roth years.
