Free Music Notes for Van HuntFree Music Review: Solid neo soul - hard hitting originals and softer homages Hit: 3 StarsVery promising debut in the watered down neo soul genre. Although some of these tracks show the more generic characteristics of the genre, songs like "dust" and "hold my hand" take new, interestingly done directions which Van Hunt wears very well. That's not to say that some of the more traditional compositions are poor, oftentimes they are quality-however the general direction on the album does feel a bit contrived and derivative in the face of the more unique material, particularly in the ballad department, which oftentimes seem wrapped up in a tidy little singer songwriter sort of way. However when the spontaneous, subtle rock/funk/electronic hybrids gel, you should definitely feel the difference.
Free Music Review: Breath of Fresh Air Hit: 5 StarsI loved this album because it shows creativity. This is not your old recycled music. It's fresh and creative. Van Hunt has great harmonies and every song doesn't sound the same. There is a hint of Lenny Kravitz in his vocal tone without sounding like a replica. I look forward to hearing the follow up. I hope he does us proud.
Free Music Review: Wow--Where did this guy come from?! Hit: 5 StarsI browsed onto this cd listing after it was recommended to me after looking at Prince's 3121 album. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the voice coming from this cd. Van has a unique, calming but funky voice unlike any *I* could compare.
I actually LOVED a song he did on the Coach Carter Soundtrack - "Your Love". My favorite songs from this album in order have to be:
1:Seconds of pleasure (After listening to it - i realized, i had heard this before and had liked it...interesting)
2:Dust (Same with this one... heard it before, liked it, didn't know it was him!!)
3:Down Here in Hell
4:What Can I Say
5:Precious
Perfect cd when I need to drown away the sounds of work and float in the sweet sounds of Van. A definite asset to your cd collection/itunes.
Free Music Review: SOUL AINT NEW SUCKAS Hit: 5 StarsThis dude is revolutionizing the return to true soul era. Where its not about shorties, forties, or wham bam thank you maam, or feeling on your booty craziness we have been fed by the music industry for the past 5-10. I'm glad real soul is still out there now if we can only get popular musics ear it would be all over. But thanks to Van Hunt for his originality and for not dumbing down because guess what if all the music that is popular is dumbed down then the mindstates of the listeners are dumbed down challenge yourself to think deeper through these types of outlets and a lot of hatred and misunderstanding is guaranteed to disappear.
Free Music Review: Unique, Appreciative Style.... Well deserving of 5 Stars Hit: 5 StarsThis CD is pretty impressive. I didn't know what to expect when I ran across it on Amazon but I knew I wanted it and I was most definitely not disappointed! I think the hottest track on the Album, well... ONE of the Hottest, is "Hello, Goodbye" which I haven't heard much of on the reviews! What's up people? Well, anyway "Down here in Hell" is of course a blazin track... but honestly the entire CD is a runthru. Meaning u can pop it in and run thru the entire thing without skipping over any tracks. I think he did an excellent job and I'm really looking forward to another release from him. He is definitely an artist with Staying Power... which we are seeing very little of these days...
