Free Music Notes for Van Hunt

Free Music Review: Work in progress
Hit: 3 Stars

This is the purchase to make me stop being influenced by the reviews I see on Amazon. The voals were adequate but not excellent. The music was typical but not classic. The lyrics were his saving grace, clever and thoughtful. Maybe next album he can bring his weak areas up to that level. But he's not the next D'Angelo, Maxwell, or anything of the like. He's a work in progress.

Free Music Review: I'm 55 & my son is 29
Hit: 5 Stars

My son, Paul and I were having our usual discussion about his generation not having the creativity to make a whole CD, just a song or two, when he proudly said "Oh yes, we do. I have a CD from a new artist that I know and I guarantee you that every song on his CD is a hit." Lo and behold, my son was absolutely right. I have played Van Hunt's CD so much, that I let Van sing along with me when I play his CD!

Free Music Review: Outstanding music from a low-key musician
Hit: 4 Stars

Van Hunt shocked me. I'm not used to buying music that no one's heard of, but after I read the review I decided to go out on a limb. Van Hunt has this style that is a mix of Maxwell, D'Angelo, Justin Timberlake, and Marvin Gaye. I like it. His lyrics however, are what caught me. They're very easy to identify, and with that, these are the songs I think make the CD shine:
"Seconds of Pleasure"
"Down Here in Hell (With You)"
"What Can I Say (for Millicent)"
"Who Will Love Me In Winter"

Definitely check him out. Even if it's not your favorite CD, it's not one that you will absolutely hate.

Free Music Review: Words cannot describe
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is so deep that you have to pay close attention in order to underdstand his point, which is perfect for me. His analogies are so intellegent that you could get lost in your imagination figuring out his story. He is just an incredible writer and musician and music like his is long over-do!

Free Music Review: A Superior Effort
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't know where to begin in praising this record.....the superlatives of this effort are so many that I could run out of space simply listing them. I'll stick to the impressions.

This is an album that grows stronger after repeated listenings. You notice something new almost each and every time, which is one of the hallmarks of a truly timeless and classic record. Hunt is one of the few R&B songsmiths obviously influenced by Sly & the Family Stone and Prince to actually transcend these influences (pay attention Lenny Kravitz) in some important respects. The compositions are first rate, and Hunt's execution of them in the studio can be summed up in one phrase: attention to detail. Hunt never lets tricks get in the way of the messages he's trying to convey, and he knows when to leave his fingers off of the knobs on the soundboard, as much a production skill as the obvious musicianship he already posesses in spades.

This is a lyrically advanced and sure record as well. "Down Here in Hell With You" is more than a hit, it's a truthful observation about relationships.

Five stars.
