Free Music Review: Astral disappointment
Hit: 1 Stars

The old adage - "never try and and better a classic" is never so true than with this offering fom Van The Man. Astral Weeks is, arguably, the finest contemporary acoustic rock album ever made (1969)- Van at the apogee of his singer-songwriting prowess. Why then release a live remake? (2008). Beats me. The most obvious thing is the terrible technical quality. Such a sloppy and inconsistent recording and so poorly mixed. The producers have rushed this out without any critical thought - it made me squirm and immediately sooth my jangled nerves by playing the original studio album. I felt relieved. People, this is one of those occasional Van The Man aberrations. Forget it and just keep on playing the 1969 studio version ad infinitum. You can't improve on the perfect!
