Free Music Notes for Magic TimeFree Music Review: Overrated Hit: 3 StarsI heard a lot of good things about this release, but it really did not stand up. There are some nice tunes and it's very pleasant sounding, but I would rate it average overall, and below average for Van Morrison. Granted, I don't have a lot of recent releases for Van the Man, so I can't compare to those.

Free Music Review: Just lovely Hit: 4 Starsok. The man HAS to include a bloody moany number (in this case, two) about the hardships he's suffered at the hands of the music industry. Van. I love you. I'll bear your children. Just get the hell over it, already. You're rich as God. Stop whinging.
As to the cd....ahhh. Sublime (minus the aforementioned whinge-fests, but you can skip them). The man is a poet and a seer and, on this disc, he's having fun. "Just like Greta", "Gypsy in me", "I'm confessin". I could go on. He's enjoying himself and the other musicians so, go ahead, enjoy the cd for yourself.
As a Belfast chick, I've seen the Man in concert many, many times and he's always about the music. Just the music. So this cd isn't "No method" or "Inarticulate speech" or "Hymns", for that matter. Big deal. Y'all need to buy a copy of him with his band and the street choir. That's the disc for your collection.
Meanwhile, enjoy this cd for what it is. Seriously good music with a wee bit of blues and a whole lot of fun on the part of the musicians. Van obviously had a good time. We should, too.
Free Music Review: listener & reader Hit: 4 StarsJust as good as the one prior. You got to love the voice!
Free Music Review: It's magic time, all right Hit: 5 StarsNo, I'm not a hardcore Van Morrison fan, but I just call `em like I see `em. I didn't know he had a new album out, but Magic Time was recommended to me on here, so I decided to check it out.
Editorial reviewer Denise Sheppard really hit the nail on the head with her review, but I'll just say that at 60 years old, Van still has what it takes. His soul-inspired voice is ever present on this album, so that makes tracks like the title track and especially "Carry On Regardless" flow nicely. And his nod to Greta Garbo, "Jusr Like Greta", is a highlight as well. Van also does well on covers, like Frank Sinatra's "This Love of Mine" and "I'm Confessin'", as well as Fats Walker's "Lonely and Blue".
While this album still deserves five stars, I don't know if I'd necessarily call it his absolute best album, so don't expect to find another "Brown Eyed Girl" on here. Still, if you get your hands on Magic Time, you'll have just that.

Free Music Review: A collection of great ballads Hit: 4 StarsMany songs on this CD are in typical Van Morrison fashion. The first two songs are great and then again song number 7 with "Just Like Greta"; then it continues on from track 9-13 and all these songs are the typical nice ballads most Van Morrison fans will love to listen to. I thought the only kind of awkward songs were tracks 3-6 which should have been on a different CD album. But 8 great songs out of 13 in our day and age is pretty good, and then maybe one or the other song from the other group of songs is still interesting to hear. I would have loved to give this CD 5 stars and it would be even worth the 5 stars for such songs like "Stranded", "They Sold Me Out", "Celtic New Year", "Magic Time" etc., but as a whole CD album it's a solid 4 stars for me as I have to skip over some songs that I'm not too fond of.
