The Philosopher's Stone is a must for any Morrison fan, whether a long-standing devotee or a relative newcomer. It offers a range of material that accurately reflects Morrison's varied musical styles. "Wonderful Remark" never sounded better than it does here, and many other fine cuts pay homage to Morrison's Irish roots ("Drumshanbo Hustle)and blues-infused ("Madame Joy")sound. It's out of sight to have "new" material from some of the finer periods of his work. Maybe one day I'll get to hear some outtakes from "Days Like This" and "The Healing Game." "It's a superb collection and the songs stand on their own to make a truly listenable cd; unlike most collections of outtakes that are cluttered with songs that just aren't worthy for release.
