Free Music Notes for Van Morrison At The Movies: Soundtrack Hits

Free Music Review: Reel, Reel Good.
Hit: 5 Stars

Neat concept for a CD and no better performer to pick than Van The Man. Stellar live version of "Into The Mystic." You'll love the bouncy horns of "Real, Real Gone." Your lady will sanction the acquisition after she hears "Have I Told You Lately?" and "Someone Like You." Liner notes tell which films contain which songs.
Heard for first time live version of "Comfortably Numb" done by Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and Van in Berlin just after the fall of the wall. The cut was used in Martin Scorsese's movie "The Departed" (had Martin used a Morrison song in an earlier movie he probably would have won the Best Director Oscar sooner - ha!). Van sings David Gilmour's parts in "Comfortably Numb." Surprise -- it's excellent. Only thing missing is recording of movie producers/directors explaining why they chose a Van song and what Van's music means to them. Maybe we'll get that in a DVD some day.

Free Music Review: Movies Van is Good Van
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a huge Van Morrison fan - I own everything he has ever released as well as just about every bootleg, too. With that said, when I first saw this release on the schedule I thought "Oh, I'll already own all of that stuff, so I can probably forgo buying it."

Well, I was wrong. Yes, most of the stuff on this has already been released, but if you are a Van completist, you'll need this CD. First of all, it has a couple of live versions you might not already own. But most importantly, there is a re-recorded version of "Brown Eyed Girl" that is essential. It is not better than the now 40-year-old original radio chestnut, but it is great to hear Van's mature voice on this awesome song.

And if you are a casual Van fan then this is as good a place to start as Van's Best of CD.

Free Music Review: MAJESTIC VAN MORRISON AT THE MOVIES
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a magnificent collection of songs either inspired by movies or actually in the movie. Van Morrision
is showcased at his best. The inclusion of both studiio and live versions makes this truly a must for any
Morrison fan. My only regret is the omission of the great song, Sitting On Top Of the World from the movie
Evelyn. They could have substituted at least one song for this one. This is one of if not the best songs Van
has recorded in years. Buy the CD just for the song. The rest of the CD is also very good.
You will not regret it. Overall, Van Morrison At the Movies: Soundtrack Hits is truly majestic
and belongs in your music library.

Free Music Review: A prolific career captured
Hit: 5 Stars

Van Morrison has been contributing original and exceptional music for nearly 40 years. This release, his latest since last years' Pay the Devil album, is a great collection of classic Van music as featured in major motion pictures.
Having seen Van in concert dozens of times, there is nothing like a live performance and some of those are featured on this release as well. In addition to securing this album, I would urge those who haven't, to see Van Morrison live in concert. You can visit his official website for touring updates but he is currently visiting the US several times a year for brief 4 and 5 show tours and then back to Europe where he tours endlessly...

Free Music Review: A collection of Van's greatest!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an amazing collection of Van Morrison's hits, some studio and some live. My personal favorite is the track "Comfortably Numb" performed live at the Berlin Wall with Pink Floyd, which was recently used in "The Departed." But countless other classics, such as "Domino", "Moondance", "Caravan", and "Into the Mystic", will impress those that are unfamiliar with Van Morrison.

I recommend "At the Movies" to long time fans and casual listners!
