Hit: 5 Stars

Vanessa Carlton is a born musician with pure talent. She can sing, write her own songs, and play an instrument. You don't get alot of singers who do that. Miss Carlton is an excellent artist.

Many people say Alicia Keys has more talent than Vanessa. Both have pretty voices and great piano skills, but I believe Vanessa is higher. Vanessa wrote all songs but Paint It Black by herself with no one to cowrite. Alicia Keys cowrites most of her songs and most of her music. Vanessa writes her own music. Think how much effort she put into her songs, highlighting A Thousand Miles and Wanted, which she wrote the piano chords to. It's not that often you find an artist who knows and can do as much as this young girl I'm explaining here.

I think the reason a lot of people find Vanessa's splendid music to be horrible is because she's different. There are the people who like bubblegum music, then there are the rap & r&b lovers, still there are the gothic rockers. Vanessa's music really doesn't fit in with any of those groups. She simply is her own person and I see nothing wrong with that.

Here are her songs and 11 reasons to buy this CD:

Ordinary Day- This reminds me of something Britney Spears might sing, but Vanessa's incredible vocals save the song. This is probably my least favorite song on the whole CD, even though I love it. The lyrics aren't very impressive. I could pick up a pen and write something better, but the tune and vocals are splendid. 10/10

Unsung- I'm not sure why a lot of people find this song to be annoying. I love this song. It's a dark song, with haunting lyrics, yet bores an upbeat, almost country tune. The lyrics are very impressing and I'm not believing she could write something as strong as this. This isn't my favorite, but I still love it. 10/10

A Thousand Miles- This is arguably the best song on the Cd and ever! The lyrics are very very good, but not hard to figure out, like most of her songs. This is a happy, light song. It will make you smile after a bad day, and sometimes it even makes me cry because it is a very emotional song. Well done. 100/10

Pretty Baby- One of her best songs! I like the chorus a lot. The words are strange, but they mean a lot. Vanessa pulled this one off well! It's a catchy song, but it is slow at parts. A very cute song with a poppy tune. One you can't get out of your head. Not a great single, though, Unsung or Wanted would have done better. 10/10

Rinse- This is a very haunting song. I love everything about it, from the chilling lyrics to the beautiful piano chords. I could listen to this one all of the time. Very excellent song, a bit too long though. This one seems a little overdone as well, but the guitar in the middle adds somehting. 10/10

Now we come to the second half of the album with a much more darker side than the first. I like all these songs better than the first 5, except for A Thousand Miles which I like better than all.

Sway- This used to be one of my least favorite songs, but now it's a great song. The piano chords are happy at the beginning, and then fade at the end. It's so good! It reminds me of horses prancing in a field- crazy, yet true. Sort of drags on a bit, though. 10/10

Paradise- This is my 2nd fave on the album. I always love listening to this song, even though it brings up a controversial thought in my head every time I do. This song sounds like it's about diarrhea or something. I know that this is a disgusting comment, but if you think about it, it kind of does. Lyrics like "Just push it out", "Funny when the bottom drops", and "One last chance to feel alright" make me give in to the thought that it really is about diarrhea, or maybe constipation. I know, it's a disgusting thought, I'm sorry I brought it up. But I think that's what it's about! 10/10

Prince- This song is extremely weird. But I like it. I love the middle because it says alot. This song might make you want to chunk this CD in the dumpster at first, but give it some time, because after a month or so you won't be able to stop playing it. It's hard to understand, but kind of relieving to listen to. 10/10

Paint It Black- She did an amazing remake of this song. I love it! In my opinion, everything about it is better than the original. The vocals, the background tune, and everything is just great! It reminds me of a gothic surfer song at the end- another one of my crazy visions, but if you listen, you'll find the droning guitar you find in surfer flicks. 10/10

Wanted- Love the piano chords. The lyrics aren't too impressive, but they are good. I'd love to learn how to play this song on the piano. It's so pretty! This is tied with A Thousand Miles for best piano. It says alot. It's also a very fun one to sing, if you like that stuff. 10/10

Twilight- Twilight is a good song, but takes a while to get the message. I'm not going to let it out here. It's too beautiful to escape. And the tune is so pretty! I especially like the strings at the end, which add a perfect touch. If they added anything more, they would overdo it, but they leave Twilight to be a perfect song all it's own. 10/10

Overall, this CD gets 100/10! It's so good! It's my favorite CD ever! Don't throw the CD away if you can't get used to it at first because it took me some time but if you think about it, this cd is one that should stay on the charts forever.

Instead of wasting your money on Christina Aguilera, a singer who has been rated one of the best in the world by deaf judges, and Britney Spears, a morally wrong person who really makes people think "Something just isn't right with the world", buy a copy of this CD that should speak to you. Also, look out for Harmonium, Vanessa's sophmore album, which is due to hit stores in September. I know I can't wait1
