Free Music Review: Be Not Lost, Find This Album
Hit: 5 Stars

To respond to an earlier review of this album...perhaps patience of mind will yield better results than basing your appreciation of an album on it's singles.

That said, I will move on.

First and foremost, YES, the singles released from this album ("A Thousand Miles", "Ordinary Day", and "Pretty Baby") are all jaw-dropping examples of just how talented this girl is. Many people compare her to Tori Amos, which I find very unfounded. Tori's music comes from a completely different place, and girls who sing and play piano don't all have to sound the same.

Vanessa's voice is deep, soulful, yet childish and light. She uses it to her advantage. On her happier songs, "Ordinary Day" and "Thousand Miles" she sounds like a kid waiting for the sun to rise on Christmas. On her darker songs, like "Rinse", "Paint It Black", and "More Than Wanted", she sounds like the last person you'd want to hurt or mess with.

The best tracks on this album, in my opinion, are "Ordinary Day", "A Thousand Miles", "Sway", "More Than Wanted", and "Twilight".

I can't really express how this album makes me feel, but I *can* say that I recommend it a hundred times over. Get it. Love it. It *will* happen.

Free Music Review: she'll go miles and miles
Hit: 4 Stars

After just hearing "A thousand miles" a tad too often on music channels and radio, I was amazed by what "Be not nobody" had to offer more. Vanessa Carlton really knows her way around the piano. Young as she may be she composed some really beautiful melodies, that are perfect to accompany her distinct voice. She sings with a passion you don't hear often, you can hear she actually means what she's singing. Be Not Nobody has the perfect mix of slow dreamy songs (Pretty Baby, Twilight) and more swinging ones with an attitude (Unsung).

Free Music Review: Don't waste your money
Hit: 2 Stars

If you can, buy the single "Ordinary Day" and don't waste your money on the whole cd. A Thousand Miles is alright, but that's been played to death on the radio anyway. The rest of the songs are immature and annoying. What I don't understand is how she could have written "Ordinary Day", an exceptional song, and also have been the author of all this other crap. The other songs seriously sound like she was under a deadline to just write something ... anything ... to fill the cd. They're unimaginative, repetetive, and whiny. Pretty Baby is so irritating, I find it about as pleasant as nails on a chalk board.

Free Music Review: The Best
Hit: 5 Stars

Vanessa has the prettiest voice. Her piano skills are amazing. She still doesn't measure up to some of the other artists out there but that doesn't mean she isn't good. Her songs are both pretty, but unique. Her newest, 'White Houses' is diffrent but a very beautifull song. Her CD is defiantly worth walking a thousand miles for.

Free Music Review: i give her credit!
Hit: 5 Stars

I like how the songs aren't annoyingly repeticious. some people said they are, but they aren't, the songs change tunes and have different sounds and instraments, which makes it more complex. I can't stand songs that repeat annoyingly like alot of songs on the radio, shes not like that, thats why i can listen to her. I like how her songs have feeling, its sad that so many artists dont even have feeling in their music cause the songs are just songs that mean nothing to them. i give vanessa carlton credit for doing what she wants, and for her music being complex and i like how it has feeling.

I would also like to recommend Jane Child, she is the most amazing singer. you can hear her music at www.janechild.com she writes her own songs and plays her own instrements.
