Free Music Notes for Heroes & ThievesFree Music Review: Enchanting Hit: 5 StarsThe third time's definitely a charm for singer/song-writer Vanessa Carlton, who grants three wishes for the listener with her latest album.
1. Intelligent songwriting
2. Well produced songs
3. Non-mainstream fare
The only thing I can find fault with is the length of the album. Like the Cinderella fairytale, Carlton also stops just short of twelve with this eleven song offering, and doesn't even leave a glass slipper to tide us over until the next performance.
Songs with magic in them:
1. Nolita Fairytale - First single, recounting her life and times living in the Nolita district in Manhattan
2. Hands On Me - Second single. Mid-tempo track with catchy melody
3. Spring Street - nice "na-na's"
4. Come Undone - best lyrics
5. The One - just because it features Stevie Nicks
6. Heroes & Thieves - single worthy title track
7. Home - just because it's such a personal and deeply reflective song
Not that the rest are bad, but they're merely as good as we expect a Vanessa Carlton song to be. Rated: 4.5 stars

Free Music Review: Best So Far Hit: 5 StarsThis is my favorite of her cd's and I listen to it all the time. I feel like it shows off her voice much better; there are dark songs as usual, but plenty of upbeat ones as well which I appreciated.
Free Music Review: PERFECT CD! To get away from today's Music! Hit: 5 StarsI think this is one of Vanessa's best CDs yet! The song "Nolita's Fairytale" describes her story from beginning to now. Even her song with Stevie Nicks "The One" is fantastic! You can easily get lost in the beautiful words and lyrics of this CD! This is a must own for all CD collections!
Free Music Review: She's back to save us all Hit: 4 StarsIt seemed like Vanessa Carlton was on top of the world when her first album Be Not Nobody (I still don't know what that means) was out, thanks to hits like "A Thousand Miles" and "Ordinary Day". But then her following album Harmonium, while not bad, was pretty much ignored (in fact, if she released any single other than "White Houses", I don't know about it). And after breaking up with boyfriend/producer Stephan Jenkins, she still scores with her third effort, Heroes & Thieves.
I'm not exactly sure why Vanessa switched from A&M to the Inc, of all places (what; wasn't Irv getting enough revenue from the fifty people that watch Gotti's Way?), but fortunately, the album isn't a big hip-hop fest; in fact, it doesn't sound any different from Vanessa's usual fare. Highlights include "Fools Like Me", "Come Undone" and "More Than This". And if you want to hear some good solo piano breaks from her, try "Nolita Fairytale" or "Home" on for size. Also good is her duet with mentor Stevie Nicks, "The One" (although Stevie is only singing in the background).
Vanessa has never had the strongest voice, but she still tends to go off-key here and there, which is why I knocked off one star. That, and "Spring Street" has a pretty dull chorus. But Heroes & Thieves is an album worth picking up.

Free Music Review: "I feel it in my veins, I just can't walk away this time..." Hit: 5 StarsHeroes & Thieves by Vaness Carlton is an extraordinary and gorgeous album. I can honestly say that all 11 tracks are worth repeated listens, each song is special and unique thanks to Vanessa's clever wordplay and musical craftmanship. Songs like Nolita Fairytale, Home, The One featuring Stevie Nicks, More Than This, and Hands On Me all great pop songs, the rest of the tracks have more of a story to them like Spring Street and Heroes & Thieves. I loved Harmonium and didn't care too much for Be Not Nobody but this album is completely different and defintely one I will enjoy for many years to come! I highly recommend it.
