Free Music Notes for Make You LoveFree Music Review: V: Enigma or Mystery? Hit: 5 StarsSo Vanessa disappears for months and years, and her albums go out of print and fetch big bucks on ... well, rhymes with Lady Day. Searches for Mp3s or photos are in vain; they hide in the shadows of cyberspace, only peeking out from behind the screen occasionally just as a tease.
Then, one day, her albums just materialize, digitally, on Amazon without a word from V or the universe in general. And she sticks the torch in for good with sweet and mad works like Lovechild or A Little Bit of Pain.
But what do you expect? ... she was born on an island.
Free Music Review: Seduction is complete... Hit: 4 StarsVanessa Daou's `Make You Love' was one of her most extreme CD's: Its sensuality is bleeding. Its lyrics were the most original. Vanessa's husband and producer, Peter Daou's, emotional and musical investment and talents make this his crowning achievement in the Vanessa Daou discography.
Sex - and more importantly, its complexities are at the forefront of Vanessa Daou's very complex and extremely addictive music. Nothing is more hypnotic than her voice: Which is chanteuse-quality and seductress-worthy. This woman can sing you to putty!
`You' opens with mild allusions, while 'Little Bit of Pain' is as advertised: No secrets here. The sweetness comes soon in `Mess Around' I love the lyrics and the beat is so hypnotic. Wow! No nice, neat, or pretentious girl ego need apply. This song is plays no apathy or any incidentals. This song is so enticing!
So well produced is `Make You Love', I began comparing this CD to other of Daou's releases and found no other comparable. I love the laid-back and unpretentious nature of this CD. It offers only what is advertised - and it does it with both style and seductiveness.
This CD is a buy for any electronica fan that enjoys seductive vocals with very smart producing.
Free Music Review: "Little Bit of Pain" worth the price of admission Hit: 4 StarsVanessa has never enjoyed the popularity she deserves. She and hubby's mix of electronica and vocals is one-of-a-kind, some of the dreamiest, stellar dance music around. "Little Bit of Pain" is one of the more delicious dance songs I can recall next to her own "Long Tunnel of Wanting You." A couple of cuts are threadbare for me, but still keep the mood going. For all Vanessa fans who loved "Zipless" and "Slow to Burn".
Free Music Review: So in love with Vanessa Hit: 5 StarsI have no idea why it has taken me so long to write this review.
First of all, let me make a bold statement - this is easily my favorite CD in my collection, which I must admit is quite considerable in size. I have had this CD for some time now, four or five years, and have listened to it easily over a 1,000 times and have not tired of it in the least. Vanessa voice, as well as the sensual music simmering beneath it, is incredibly sexy and raw and will strip your inhibitions naked.
I am embarrassed to admit that I knew nothing of Vanessa until I stumbled across one of her songs on an episode of Dawson's Creek. I know, I know, but at least it brought Vanessa's music into my life - well worth the hours of guilty pleasure spent on the WB many years back. I am a complete trip-hop freak, so I have no idea how I managed to miss out on Vanessa for so long.
I have since bought all of Vanessa's CDs, including her single "A Little Bit of Pain", as well as any other Daou recording that I can scavenge from Amazon, iTunes, wherever. I was even able to procure an autographed copy of "Make You Love" from Vanessa's website a few years ago. Needless to say, it is a prized possession. Each CD easily ranks in my top 20, most in my top 10. I am sure a review of my iPod's most listened to list would confirm this fact.
From Vanessa and Peter Daou's musical interpretation of Erica Jong's writings on "Zipless", to "Slow to Burn", "Dear John Coltrane", "Plutonium Glow" (thank you, Vanessa for the song "Alive" on this CD), to this immaculate offering, "Make You Love", Vanessa consistently delivers the goods.
Personal favorites on "Make You Love" include "You", "A Little Bit of Pain", "Mess Around", "Make You Love", and "Juliette". This is music for the sensual life - an intimate and leisurely gathering of friends, that wandering afternoon drive to nowhere in particular, or a passionate late night session with the one that you love (or simply lust).
Get a little bit of Vanessa in your life, and into your headphones. My life hasn't been the same since she came into mine.
Vanessa, please keep doing what you do. Your music is a bastion in a world that rewards the offensive and talent-devoid offerings of the likes of Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson.
Free Music Review: Simply The Best Hit: 5 StarsI think this cd has to go down as Vanessa's best work. Even if you are not a fan of her music, you should have this one in your collection.
