Free Music Notes for ThemesFree Music Review: Vangelis Themes Hit: 4 StarsOriginally I got this CD for wedding music (my bride wanted HYMN from the Album "Opera Sauvage"). Then I found out how well the other soundtracks on this CD were composed and played. I especially liked the composer's interpretation of CHARIOTS OF FIRE from the Album "Chariots of Fire". I decided this would be appropriate music for the candle lightning ceremony before the wedding. This CD is a good starter album for those hearing the Vangelis music for the first time or wanted to start a Vangelis collection.
Free Music Review: Contained herein is the most beautiful song EVER!!! Hit: 5 StarsThat is not mere hyperbole!! Usually, when I think of New Age music, I think of soulless noodling (you know the people I'm referring to), but Vangelis is different. He crafts melodies that the masters (Beethoven, Mozart, etc.) would have been proud to call their own. As others have pointed out, the themes from "Missing" and "Bladerunner" are objects of beauty, but even they pale when compared to "Memories of Green." Though this song appeared on the album "See You Later" in the mid-70's, I'm familiar with this song as it was used in the movie "Bladerunner," my all-time favorite movie. The part where Deckard is trying to tell Rachel that she's really a Replicant has this haunting melody that reduces me to tears every time I hear it. That descending piano figure, coupled with the wail of sirens show the loneliness that a cold, modern technical world has given us. Try listening to this song with headphones or late at night and you'll see what I mean. No piece of music has EVER moved me like this one, and for that alone, this CD is indispensable. Once you factor in the other amazing tracks here, you have gold mine of great stuff.
Free Music Review: KUDOS Hit: 5 StarsI too am new to the Vangelis name(though not to his work). Trying to describe the themes in this CD is like...attemping to describe the wind. A poignant, ellegant, powerful and subtly seductive artist appearing like the dawn-- fresh and unpredictable. Try "La Petite Fille de la Mer", "The Tao of Love" and the Themes from Missing and Bladerunner.Kudos to Amazon!...were it not for the extensive samples available for preview I would have never bought this. One or two samples were not enough..I had to hear more, more, till I got hooked...and made the purchase.
Free Music Review: Absolutely beautiful Hit: 5 StarsI am relatively new to Vangelis. The first CD I owned was "Reprise," and that was because a friend gave it to me as a gift. I fell in love with it. I came to amazon and researched his other works, and "Themes" seemed to receive the most praise. I ordered it, and immediately fell in love with it, too. The best song on the album, and the best Vangelis song I've heard yet, is the "Theme from Missing." I've never heard such beautiful, sad, heart-wrenching music. I listened to it 3 times in a row, in awe of how wonderful it was. I couldn't believe I'd never heard it before. THe music from Blade Runner was also fantastic--and I immediately remembered hearing it in the movie, particularly the love theme. This CD makes me want to buy even more Vangelis music--and I highly recommend it for anyone who is curious about his sound.
Free Music Review: dramatic massage music ! Hit: 5 StarsThis guys got a flair for the etheral with an emphasis on classical composition. The tracks are hauntingly beautiful with a touch of love, Bladerunner and Chariot of Fire themes, and danger, the Bounty themes. Check out the cd Oceanic, also by Vangelis. That one to me contemplates pro creation with a swan song feel of the days gone by to sea faring lands and people.
