Free Music Notes for ThemesFree Music Review: dramatic massage music ! Hit: 5 StarsThis guys got a flair for the ethereal with an emphasis on classical composition. The tracks are hauntingly beautiful with a touch of love, Bladerunner and Chariot of Fire themes, and danger, the Bounty themes. Check out the cd Oceanic, also by Vangelis. This one to me contemplates pro creation with a swan song feel of the days gone by to sea faring lands and people.
Free Music Review: Ideal for the newcomer into Vangelis music, and... Hit: 5 StarsThis album trully is ideal for the newcomer into Vangelis music, but I have to say that it also comes incredibly handy even for long-time Vangelis fans, since is summarizes the essence of the work of Vangelis, by borrowing the best tracks from several of his previous works. It falls short as any Vangelis compilation does, simply because almost the entire discography of this greek musical genius deserves to be part of your CD collection. It really doesn't matter which type of music you like: there's no way on earth you will not enjoy Vangelis.
Free Music Review: The Ideal Travel Companion Hit: 5 StarsEven if my wife restricts me to just one wallet of CDs, this CD comes along on every vacation. Whether I'm in a plane, walking alone on a deserted beach, or gazing upon some panorama, there are key tracks on this Vangelis compilation which always accentuate the experience. The track listing on the CD cover is given in a glorious wide-screen format, but only around half the pieces here are from well-known feature films. The two stand-out tracks, unobtainable anywhere else, are the opening and closing titles from 'The Bounty'. The first exudes menace and beauty simultaneously. The second is simply the best musical impression of the sea I know, and could well be in the Top Ten tracks of my entire CD collection. The sleevenotes are informative: Vangelis doesn't work, as many film composers do, with click tracks. Nor is he like the other extreme, Tangerine Dream, who didn't even bother to see William Fridekin's movie of 'The Sorcerer' before composing their soundtrack. He sits back from the movie, absorbs the atmosphere adn emotion, and creates music which captures the spirit of the visual image. This means that Vangelis' music stands on its own, and can be appreciated without first seeing the movie. Not enough tracks from 'Chariots of Fire' are here, in my view. I particularly miss 'Abraham's theme' and 'Eric's Theme'. This is still a first-class trawl through Vangelis recent archives, harking back to an era when a soundtrack albums wasn't automatically released for every movie. In Vangelis' case, musical quality was clearly not the reason for their non-release.
Free Music Review: Not for true fans... Hit: 5 StarsThis album by Vangelis is filled with all the good things anyone can hope for in a New-Age album. It features the most famous (but not necessarily the best) tunes Vangelis had composed for movies, theatre and commercially. I personally liked the Blade Runner tunes and Chariots of Fire (which is probably one of his most famous). Recommended for those who wish to taste a bit of everything about Vangelis. Real fans should get the albums themselves. :)
Free Music Review: One of the best CDs ever made Hit: 5 StarsThis is an absolutely great CD. The tunes are both soulful and very unique. If I were stranded on a desert island and could take only one CD. This would be it. I've had the CD for years, and it never get's old.
