Free Music Notes for Finding Forrester (2000 Film)

Free Music Review: Not for Jazz lovers. It's for music lovers at large!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Very few soundtracks are able to pull together so much musical beauty together as this one did. The music of Miles Davis and Bill Frissell blend so perfectly into the movie, that one can think that the music is just as much part of 'Finding Forrester,' as is the very good acting and the script.

Take the scene when Jamal sneaks into Forrester's appartment (in the first fifteen minutes of the movie, don't worry: I'm not spoiling things for you). Would it be half as good without Davis' trumpet in the background? Or the rest of the movie without Frissell's guitar (for those of you familiar with Daniel Lanois, it sound sjust like his work)?

From this review you might think: "Hey! This is just for Jazz lovers!" Well, it isn't, it's more for music lovers at large, and for anyone who liked (like I did) 'Finding Forrester'. If you don't believe me, then picture yourself NOT liking 'Somewhere over the rainbow' (from the 'Wizard of Oz') or 'Wonderful World' (the classic by Louis Armstrong). You can't, can you? Well, these are two of the songs that form part of this splending musicall collage that served as background to 'Finding Forrester.'

Free Music Review: great modern jazz
Hit: 5 Stars

I am replying to the other reviews given about this album. I think that this new music from Miles Davis and co. is a fabulous new fusion of jazz and other modern music styles emerging today. Jazz, like all other music, is growing with the times, and I believe that it is done wonderfully in this album. Also, like most soundtracks, it does not include all the music from the film, but often this is a good thing, as it is arrange beautifully and lacks nothing that the film may have also offered. (unlike the soundtrack to "O Brother Where Art Thou" for example, we do not need 5 remixes of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", as they did with "I am a Man of Constant Sorrow", and so this album has been compiled from the film beautifully).

Free Music Review: Get the Star Average Up Up Up!
Hit: 5 Stars

This music worked great in the film, and stands independently as a masterful jazz compilation. This is a CD for those whose tastes and/or interests extend beyond the mainstream. But it contains the music of some of the most honored and popular contemporary jazz artists -- I mean artists. If you don't already know the modern music of Miles Davis, Bill Frissel, Ornette Coleman, but you like broadening your horizons, get this CD. I would not review a cabaret revue -- its not my thing. In that vain, I am disappointed that reviewers who just-don't-get-it-at-all were able to bring the star rating for this compilation below a perfect 5. Calling all music afficianados: Write a 5 star review and bring up the rating!

Free Music Review: Fantastic movie and soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

I found the entire package wonderful, and Sean Connery does a good job of not overpowering Rob Brown's character.

The one song I wish they had included in the soundtrack that I found missing has been used in one shape or form across many movies (Badlands, True Romance, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) entitled "Your So Cool" or "Musica Poetica," depending on which composer you reference.

This can be found under either Hans Zimmer when wanting "Your So Cool," or under Carl Orff when seeking "Musica Poetica." What a shame to miss this piece. It is referenced in the credits twice though, which is nice to give it justice.

Free Music Review: Great soundtrack from a great movie
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great soundtrack from a great (and very atypical) movie. There's music from Miles Davis' electric era featuring people like Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette and many others. There's also music from Bill Frisell (his voice is so distinctive, I knew it was him as soon as the movie started and the theme music began), Ornette Coleman and last but by no means least, there's that beautiful version of "Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. The CD is worth buying for that song alone.

This is probably one for jazz lovers only but boy, what a collection it is!
