Free Music Notes for Shrek - Music From the Original Motion PictureFree Music Review: Great music for great film Hit: 5 StarsHaving seen this film, I had to buy to the music CD. It always amazes me when someone sits and picks individual artists and songs to fit a film's story. Whoever did this one did a wonderful job.
Besides the original music written for the film, there are several performances which stand out. Smashmouth is not only featured in their own hit "All Star" but also in singing Neil Diamond's "I'm a Believer". Jason Wade sings an updated version of the 1950s Jo Stafford hit "You Belong to Me" which is great. I don't know who decided to include Rufus Wainwright's cover of the Leonard Cohen song, "Hallelujah", but it was an excellent choice. Up until now, my favorite version of this song, filled with deep feelings, was the one by John Cale. However, I will now have to add Wainwright's to my list. They have included "I'm On My Way" by the much maligned and frequently overlooked singing duo, "The Proclaimers", and it fits perfectly. Finally, there is a reprise of "I'm a Believer" by Eddie Murphy as the character, "Donkey" which is just the right touch as music over the closing credits.
I could go on and on, but I just suggest that you buy this CD and enjoy it.
Free Music Review: Just one little thing Hit: 5 StarsI agree with many of you that this album is great and that the best piece is Hallelujah sung by Rufus Wainwright, scion of the McGarrigles! However, I'm pretty sure that the song was penned by the great Leonard Cohen...
Free Music Review: Shrek Rocks Hit: 5 StarsNot only was the movie incredible, but the music matched the movie very well. The songs expressed the feelings and the moods equally well. The songs were also just great to listen to.
Free Music Review: minor correction Hit: 3 Starshaven't listened to this cd as i get all the music when i watch the movie (which i do regularly). but contrary to whatever is written in these reviews (for example, "Rufus Wainwright ... pen winsome, longing tunes"), rufus wainwright did not write 'hallelujah' (that honor belongs to leonard cohen) and did not do the version in the movie (that was john cale). this is not meant to detract from wainwright's version, only to give credit where credit is due.
Free Music Review: The movie may be good, but the music is sucky Hit: 2 StarsThis is the perfect CD for taking a nap to. It's mostly full of slow pop and rock. If you're a fan of this type of music, I recommend this CD, but if not, don't buy it. There are only a few good tracks. All Star, Bad Reputation, I'm A Believer, Stay Home. And I don't enjoy buying a CD that only 1/3 of it is good. So, I wouldn't buy it, if I were you.
