Free Music Notes for Shrek - Music From the Original Motion Picture

Free Music Review: Hallelujah!
Hit: 2 Stars

Rufus Wainwright's cover of Jeff Buckley's cover of John Cale's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is not nearly as good as Jeff Buckley's cover of John Cale's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." It isn't even as good as John Cale's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." However, it is better than Leonard Cohen's version of "Hallelujah." The poem "Hallelujah," also by Leonard Cohen, is better than all of the other Hallelujahs except for Jeff Buckley's cover of John Cale's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." There, glad that's settled.

Free Music Review: Good music here!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Yes, I'm a huge Shrek fan. This album is worthy of 5 stars no matter what anyone says.

My personal favorites are:

Tracks 1, 2, 3, 5, and 9. Yeah, it's a great album!

SmashMouth's two hits really give the album some punch, while if you want to hear GOOD girl pop (unlike Britney) listen to Lslie Carter!

Free Music Review: A must have for the Shrek fan - only 1 complaint
Hit: 5 Stars

There are not a lot of albums out there that I like every song on - yet alone many albums that my kids and I both enjoy every song on, but this one is it for us! Of course we loved the movie Shrek so that is part of it I am sure. If you are not a huge Shrek fan you probably won't be all that interested in the soundtrack. If you love the big green guy like we do then you will have a great time listening to the songs on this cd.

I found myself appreciating the music on a deeper level than simply a tribute to the movie. I truly love the mix of songs included. I like the remakes of most of the songs like Smashmouth's version of "I'm a Believer" and Hallelujah is one of my all-time favorites.

My only complaint about the album is that they didn't use Joan Jett's version of "Bad Reputation" even though that is what they played in the movie. I think that is misleading when they don't use the same song that they did in the soundtrack and then they call it the "soundtrack"! I've gotten used to the one on the album and it is ok, but I really wish it would have been Joan Jett singing instead! Maybe I should have given the album 4 stars for that reason, but I love it too much anyway.

Free Music Review: superb.

I have yet to figure out what all the "belly-aching" is about. Before writing my own review, I read through several pages with other reviews of this Soundtrack, and got very mixed signals.

Many have complained that "Hallelujah" is performed by Rufus Wainwright the acclaimed folk-pop singer with the haunting voice and brilliant piano skills instead of the version that is featured in the actual movie Shrek. All I can say to this is: Thank God that they did!

I am a huge Shrek movie fan and watched the movie more times than I could count, but it was not until several months later that my family acquired the soundtrack, therefore letting me enjoy it with a clean slate.

For a year and a half straight the soundtrack was in our cd-changer, and was listened to constantly. I fell in love with songs like "You Belong to Me" performed by Jason Wade (lead singer of the rock band Lifehouse) with the simplistic beauty of a man, his beautiful voice, and an acoustic guitar... all other covers of this song pale in comparison.

I am also a fan of Dana Glover's "It is you (I have loved)" because I can hear the raw emotion in it and the Eels "My Beloved Monster"

Of the more uptempo songs I enjoy Stay Home by Self and feel it should have taken the place of "All Star" for the opening montage, simply because it makes more sense... and is less annoying, as well as The Proclaimers "I'm on my way" and Bad Reputation.

(I won't even begin to describe my loathing for Ashley Carter's ultra-super-bubble-gum-poppy-makes-my-head-want-to-explode song "Like, Wow")

And out of all these great songs (and a few crappy ones) I like "Hallelujah" the best. Yes, the same "Hallelujah" performed by Rufus Wainwright and not that of John Cale. After months of not seeing Shrek, when it finally was released on VHS and DVD, I of course bought it, and watched it as soon as I could. When it came to the all important montage where Shrek and Fiona are seperated and "Hallelujah" began to play... all I could do was cringe. The words fall flat and lifeless in the movie, where they are vibrant, beautiful, and haunting on the soundtrack.

Honestly, people act as if they cannot read, where it plainly says on the back of the Soundtrack case "Hallelujah- Rufus Wainwright"

Free Music Review: This ROCKS!! Groovy soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

My 17 month old son and I rock out to this album constantly....when we're not watching the movie. We love it. He loves it more and I love to watch him loving it. Jack is a rock and roller!!!
