Free Music Review: Kruisen at it's Kewlest

There is so much emotion in this old soundtrack playing in my Ipod as I sit to write this review. I first owned it on vinyl back in the day. I have also owned it on cassette, a couple of times. There was no other oldies collection before it's release. This is the recording that started the whole "Golden Oldies" spin off! I drove my folks nuts with this one. This is rock & roll in it's finest hour! Sure, when I was a kid, I used to listen to all the pop metal that was around but they never had the personality and the soul that this recording has. I look back now and think how stupid some of that music was, not so for American Graffiti. These are 100% American artists performing a music that was purely American and that has never been duplicated or replicated since.
What set this recording apart for me, is this: it is really music! These artists could actually sing and carry a harmony part. The coming music in the 60's was just horrible by comparison, once the producers figured out the money that stood to be made. There was no talent required. If you doubt my word, go listen to some Janis Jopplin! The one artist that I find strangely absent on this recording is Elvis! Shouldn't there at least been a cut of Hound Dog or Heartbreak Hotel since it is mainly a collection of 50's music?
Bottom line: this is an outstanding recording that you will try to wear out! The CD remaster is much better then I expected. All of the noise that was in the original release is gone. Since I bought this, my PT Cruiser has never been kewler! "At the Hop" playin' down at the Sonic s drive-in, I love the Wolfman!!
41 Original Hits From The Soundtrack Of American Graffiti Poster
For those of us who grew up in the '70s, this drive-in compilation of '50s and '60s rock and doo-wop, complete with Wolfman Jack introductions, was our introduction to this music. There are 41 jukebox hits here, and every one of them is a classic of its time (although two tracks--"At the Hop" and "She's so Fine" are covers by the revival band Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids). In his 1973 movie, director George Lucas used the music (and the presence of mysterious deejay Wolfman) as the AM-radio soundtrack to one night in suburban California, 1962. The idea was to capture and sustain an end-of-summer, end-of-innocence mood that's in the air throughout the picture-- not as a shortcut to establishing a period (as in Robert Zemeckis'Forrest Gump). There's an awful lot of spontaneous energy in these tunes--from Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, to the Platters and the Clovers and the Del-Vikings, to the Crests and the Beach Boys--and also just a hint of melancholy that goes down very nicely with a burger, shake, and fries. --Jim EmersonPop Music CDs
