Free Music Notes for Almost FamousFree Music Review: Where's volume 2? =) Hit: 5 Stars
I just wanted to thank "biggbertha" for saying the name of the song used in the commercial...I'd been looking for it for awhile now! With the title, I did some searching and found out it's by Eric Carmen w/the Raspberries. There is a sound clip on the album "The Definite Collection" by Eric Carmen. It's also on the album "Poptopia: Power Pop Classics of the 70's".Anyways, I just really love this soundtrack. How can you dislike any of the songs? I just got it today and I've already listened to it about 3 times. One of the other reviewers said that it will tide you over until you can see the movie again.. that's so true! I plan on going to see the movie again this weekend.. I had wanted to see the movie for awhile because I just love every Cameron Crowe movie I see, but this one is my fave. I just loved it. Especially the music. I could go on & on about this..
Free Music Review: If you saw the movie, then why haven't you bought this yet?! Hit: 5 Stars
My instructions: See the movie, buy this CD, listen to this CD, see the movie again!I did this and I love the CD even more now that I watched the movie again. The music is so right for the movie. With a mix of music from famous artists and some new songs, it is a great soundtrack. There are lyrics to most of the songs, so it isn't just a lot of background music that was thrown together. If you are from the generation of the characters, you will love this because it will take you back to those days. And if you are someone who is their age, but in present-day, you will love this because the music is great! I never get tired of listening to it and I have listened to it for 3-4 repeated cycles at a time before. It's perfect for having some background music to play, if you want to just sit and think, or if you want something totally different to listen to that isn't a set of over-played oldies.
Free Music Review: Correction on the songs people are asking about... Hit: 5 Stars
First off, brilliant movie, brilliant soundtrack, 'nuff said. The song playing while Penny is flying out is one of the many instrumentals written by Cameron Crowe's wife, Nancy Wilson (of the poodle-haired band Heart). There is also a great one from her in the scene where Penny and William decide to go to Morocco, right after the fateful Black Sabbath concert where they met. "It's all happening!" The song is NOT "Bron-Y-Aur" by Led Zeppelin. THAT song is the one playing when Russell is in the cab heading to what he thinks is Penny's house, but is actually the kid writer's, William. It's also NOT "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" by Neil Young. THAT song is the one playing when Russell and William walk into the house in Topeka where they're having the party with the acid-laced beer in the red cups. Enjoy!
Free Music Review: great doesn't even cover it... Hit: 5 Stars
I'll keep this short, though I could pontificate for hours on "Almost Famous". No adjective can describe how much this film moved me. I'd seen it in the theaters four times. I don't ordinarily do things like that. That said, it has become my favorite. The soundtrack mirrors both the previous sentiment and the time period in represents. The fact that no Beatles, Stones, or God forbid, Grateful Dead show up on the soundtrack has nothing to do with the time period, but rather what the protagonist was listening to at the time. Just dumping a bunch of "Classic Rock" tunes onto the soundtrack with little, if any, regard for the characters, plot, and general tone of the movie would be a great disservice to both film and the audience. Watch the movie again... This soundtrack is a must have, as is the DVD.
Free Music Review: I dig music. Hit: 5 Stars
Oh how I wish I could have lived in this era. While my generation has produced some music that I absolutely love, I just wish I could have experienced a time when not EVERY SINGLE THING was commercialized. The perfect quote from the movie is at the end when Sapphire is talking to Russell about loving music. This movie is my all time favorite and will be forever. Music is my heart and soul, and this movie captures the feelings I get from it. I am also kind of sad that this soundtrack does not have more Zeppelin, but it is still amazing. I hope that Cameron Crowe knows how much he touched people's lives with this masterpiece of a movie. He is my favorite director, my other favorite movie being Vanilla Sky. Enjoy this movie, and this soundtrack. Love music.
