IT'S about time! I needed this so badly back in 79 when I first discover this movie, then I just tape the music from my TV ,not very good but OK. I would jam on my bike like I was Captain America. "Music From The Soundtrack EASY RIDER" is actually the soundtrack of a culture. "A man went looking for America and couldn't find it anywhere..."Two of STEPPENWOLF's best songs are included here, "The Pusher" and "Born To Be Wild". An interesting side note is that Hoyt Axton is the writer of "The Pusher". The Band's song "The Weight", from their 1968 album "Music From Big Pink" was performed in the motion picture but was not available for the soundtrack. Smith's recording of "The Weight" is included on the soundtrack, and they do an excellant job worthy of Robbie Robertson's respect. "Wasn't Born To Follow" by The Byrds is here. One of Jimi Hendrix's masterpiece's, "If Six Was Nine", is included. Roger McGuinn, from The Byrds, covers Bob Dylan's'"It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)." Roger McGuinn is also given credit for "The Ballad Of Easy Rider", although Bob Dylan wrote the words while Roger McGuinn put the music to it. "If You Want To Be A Bird" by The Holy Modal Rounders is pretty weird and a country music song about bogarting a joint, "Don't Bogart Me" by Fraternity Of Man, is just strange. But all in all, the music holds up quite well.
If you like THE BYRDS, BOB DYLAN & THE BAND, THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, and STEPPENWOLF, then you will love this collection of songs.
As a teen I remember searching far and wide, in countless used record emporiums, for this album. I snatched up every copy I could get hold of. Now, at age 38, I still have one remaining LP in a protective plastic sleeve and the newly released CD version. I'm so happy, I could just $#!+.

The soundtrack of Easy Rider is in many ways an important one.It was one of the first films to use rock music as a base for film.That would have been just nice if the songs weren't great,but fortunately the songs themselves are great.It contains the ultimate biker song "Born To Be Wild" as well as Hendrix's classic "If 6 Was 9".
There's one strange thing about this soundtrack though.The song "The Weight" from The Band isn't sung by The Band but by Smith which makes it less interresting to listen to.And there are songs from Bob Dylan that are sung by Roger McGuinn,it is said that Dylan didn't like the ending of the movie and therefore didn't want to have his voice on the soundtrack.
Anyway,despite these points it truly is a great album.The lesser known songs are just as great,listen to "Wasn't Born To Follow" and "Kyrie Eleison" for some great psychedelic sound.The two absurd tracks "Bird" and "Bogart" are very funny,but are even funnier when you see the movie.
A soundtrack classic that everyone should own.
