Free Music Notes for Groove (2000 Film)

Free Music Review: Not as good as the movie
Hit: 4 Stars

But still a decent mix, incorporting a few of the notable track from the movie. Anyone know what song is playing when when DJ Snaz makes his successful fade?

Free Music Review: Very chill

After seeing the film, "Groove", (which in itself is a great piece of work from writer/director Greg Harrison...please everyone go see this film, support independent film!) I went straight out and picked up the CD. The tracks were masterfully chosen and mixed by DJ WishFM. It starts out with a light vocal track by B-15 project called "Girls like Us." It's very catchy, and that aides it on the album as a standout track. Next it transitions into Boozy & Swan's "Champagne Beat Boogie," which is a very disco like track. So all in all, a good start to the album. I felt as though it dragged a bit over the next few tracks before encountering "20 minutes of disco glory" which isn't really 20 minutes, but it could have lasted that long and I would've enjoyed it. Some more traditional tracks show up with Orbital, Bedrock, Hybrid, and Ferry Costens remix of Libra presents Taylor's "Anomaly" which is a fabulous track. All of the previous get back to the roots of "Groove," by driving throught the heart of the rave culture. The Album is capped off with a fabulous track, for which I really bought the album for...Scott Hardkiss' remix of Infinitely Gentle Blows, by Alterring. A terrific track that mixes euphoric vocals over a classic beat and anthem-like piano and synthesizer. I highly recommend this album, and I only gave it 3 stars because I happen to review tough...but it is a very good buy.

Free Music Review: Coming Down
Hit: 3 Stars

A disappointing soundtrack when compared to the film. The movie was seething with industrial, trance, progressive, and ambient tracks that got inside you, worked their beats against your temples, and thrust you into the center of the dance floor. We're lucky enough here to have surround sound and a DVD player, and the tracks in the movie surrounded my living room with color and body. An amazing soundtrack for a powerful film.

Then the album came out. What a misrepresentation of the spirit of the movie. All traces of the industrial beats are gone, and many quality tracks are forgotten. I think the mixing is mediocre in comparison to the film, certainly not a Digweed production, and the layout of the album is lacking as well. However, for a green dance fan coming away from the movie looking for a little bit of everything, you can find it here.

(I think a girl named Asher was asking about the track right before Bedrock's "Heaven Scent." It's a progressive number called "Blue Bottle" by POB and features DJ Patrick Reid. Check it out, it's a sick track.)
