Free Music Notes for William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet: Music From The Motion Picture (1996 Version) [Enhanced CD]Free Music Review: Everclear and Garbage rock this album Hit: 4 StarsThis soundtrack is a mixed bag. Obnoxious, interminable tracks like "Pretty Piece of Flesh" and "Whatever" are thrown in with the equally endless, boring and slightly whiny "Talk Show Host." If you want to talk about obnoxious and whiny, plus shallow, dumb and sexist, there's the infectious bubblegum "Lovefool" (sample lyrics: "Fool me, fool me go on and fool me ... I can't care about anyting but you.") Nice songs like "Everybody's Free" and "Little Star" just don't fit with the hip alt-rock image, while the wild and fun "Young Hearts Run Free" does. Strangely enough, the love songs like the beautiful "Angel" and "Kissing You," the poetic and haunting "To You I Bestow" and catchy "You & Me", are upstaged by darker tracks like "#1 Crush" and "Local God" which open the album with a bang. "#1 Crush" is a murky, funky ode to unfulfilled love featuring Shirley Manson's amazing, sultry voice. "I would die for you," she purrs, "... you would believe in me and I will never be ignored." "Local God" is a rueful, bad-as-I-wanna-be anthem to being single and kicking back with friends. "Do that stupid dance for me, do that go-go Romeo, I see you twist and turn," Art Alexakis sings scornfully, only to later admit, "Please be my voice in this world, I can't sing the songs that you sing I can't find the gorgeous words." The song finishes explosively as he howls "Yeah, we do what we want!" Both "#1 Crush" and "Local God" show multilayered emotion, confident spirit and compassion, proving you don't have to be a lover to be cool. Shirley and Art are as memorable as the title characters.
Free Music Review: WONDERFUL Hit: 5 Starsu have to get it it is a perfect mix of songs! i dont know how u will manage with out it
Free Music Review: My Favorite Soundtrack Hit: 2 StarsWhile the movie itself was uneven, the soundtrack was flawless. I was a freshman in high school way back in 1996 when I bought this soundtrack simply because I really liked "Lovefool" by the Cardigans. After one listen to the cd, I realised that there were MANY songs just as good or better than that! While "Lovefool" did get very annoying due to excessive radioplay, I do enjoy jumping to track 7 every once in a while for nostalgic purposes. The song by Radiohead is nothing short of brilliant, and the love theme by Des'ree will break your heart every time. Every time I hear "Little Star" by Stina Nordenstam, my body just relaxes and I ease into a state of comfortable numbness. I also LOVE "To You I Bestow" and "Young Hearts Run Free"! Such great party songs! However, there is one song on this soundtrack that will make the whole thing worth owning: "#1 Crush" by Garbage. This track doesn't just play, it BURNS. Shirley Manson's longing moans and obsessive wails grab you by the throat and don't let go. The lyrics and the expert musicianship of this song can make everybody identify with it on some level. If you are considering buying this cd, get it now just for the song by Garbage. You will not be disappointed.
Free Music Review: I love this soundtrack Hit: 4 StarsI liked the movie, but never really get too worked up over it. I walked into my friends room and he was playing a CD, and it kept playing songs I had heard before and liked, I asked if he had burned it, he said it was the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack. I was surprised to hear it actually, I didn't remember the soundtrack being this good. It really is excellent. From The Cardigans to Radiohead, it's all pretty good pop rock music. I especially love Talk Show Host by Radiohead and #1 Crush by Garbage. There are a few weak links, but that doesn't matter, the overwhelming majority of the material is worthwhile. Definitely worth a listen.
Free Music Review: Good collection of ultracool music Hit: 4 StarsAlthough I like Volume 2 better, this soundtrack is the one that most "Romeo + Juliet" aficionados will want to own. This soundtrack is the one with all the complete songs on it, including some really great songs by some great artists. Garbage's "#1 Crush" is a pop-goth song that stays true to the feel of the movie, and "Young Hearts, Run Free" is a great techno song by Kym Mazelle. I can't stand to hear "Lovefool" by the Cardigans one more time, but for many, it might be the highlight of the album. "Little Star" by Stina Nordenstam is a trippy minimalist delight, and "You and Me Song" by the Wannadies is one of those pieces of pop fluff you think you heard in "So I Married an Axemurderer" and not "Romeo + Juliet". The tracks I mostly appreciate, and that make the album worth checking out are: "Kissing You" by Des'ree (the love theme of the movie, and a truly beautiful sappy romantic song), "Everybody's Free" by vocal dynamo Quindon Tarver (I was shocked when I saw that this album didn't include Tarver's performance of Prince's "When the Doves Cry" but then it was released shortly after on Volume 2), and "Talk Show Host" by Radiohead (in their pre-OK Computer days). All the other songs make the CD part of your complete soundtrack experience. If you want to own the pop songs that gave this movie a lot of its amazing audio depth, then get this CD.
