Free Music Review: I love this cd
Hit: 4 Stars

I love the cd but the first song is messed up. there is a scratch or something on it. but I don't care much because the rest is awesome. I listen to it constantly.

Free Music Review: Very Cool Very Exotic
Hit: 4 Stars

Exotic, sexy tunes. Rich and colorful. Great music to drive to.
Hope there will be another like this one. Wish it were longer, but it is a great CD!

Free Music Review: Define Groove
Hit: 3 Stars

This record label is putting out serious music for musicologists. Each disc in the series truly explores the music suggested by the title. My problem though is that I find myself shelving the music rather than listening to it. The music is important to anyone attempting to build a collection of Arabic Music, but to call this groove? I would rename this Arabic Pop and there is a difference. It's the same difference between American Indian New Age, which relies more on non-Indian instrumentation (ie string/horn arrangements) than on traditional instrumentation. Groove to me suggests a bassline that is rooted in Soul/Dance but with the primary voice/instrumentation being Arabic in nature (Natasha Atlas Disapora being a good example) The tracks on this record are rooted in Arabic Pop and the word groove is used incorrectly.

Free Music Review: There are better options for Arab music
Hit: 3 Stars

I thought this was a mediocre offering. A couple of the songs are too Westernized and not Arabic enough ... kinda like listening to Sting do Arab music rather than the real thing.

The production is also poor...some of the songs end abruptly, as if the producers weren't paying attention when they put together the tracks.

That said, there are some really good songs here, especially those by Natacha Atlas and Dania. But then, you could just directly buy their CDs.

A better compilation is Arabesque...much more original, better production, and better song selection.

Free Music Review: Average selection
Hit: 3 Stars

The first song sounded really cool, so I ordered the album. It's average, at best. Also to note: It is NOT a kids' album. I mistook it for Putumayo Kids, but that's my fault. I wish they would make an Arabic album along the lines of World Playground or French Playground!
