Free Music Notes for Ratatouille AlbumFree Music Review: Ratatouille Hit: 4 Stars
Michael Giacchino is a very talented man, with an excellent range of styles. This is, after all, the same man who did the music for Lost and The Incredibles, one of the better scores of the last five years. He was brought in at the last minute for this film, but it doesn't appear to have affected the quality of his work at all. The opening song is absolutely lovely, with a fantastic bit of Accordian work all the way through. The rest of the album evokes the sights and sounds of Paris, even if you haven't seen the film, without a hitch; Well, that's not entirely true. As is the problem with many albums consisting entirely of original scores, all of the tracks are fairly short, and don't necessarily have a definitive beginning or end. It's a very jumpy listening experience at times, both for that reason and because the music will occasionally establish a very nice melody that it then has to discard because; being a film score, it changes itself to Mickey-Mouse the action on screen (Mickey-Mousing is when the music mimics the action, like when Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With the Wind runs down the stairs and the music dives down.) Overall, a wonderful bit of work.
