Free Music Notes for Velvet Goldmine: Music From The Original Motion PictureFree Music Review: Simply Wonderful! Hit: 5 Stars
Although many people have (for some reason) slagged this soundtrack, i firmly believe that it is an astounding display of talent. i was at first rather wary of buying it because of the bad rap given to it by the music press, but i was pleasantly surprised. Not only does it contain several classic glam tunes by some of my favourite musicians (Brian Eno, Roxy Music, T. Rex), it has some wonderful additions. Shudder To Think did a positvely stunning job on "The Ballad of Maxwell Demon" and "Hot One" and Grant Lee Buffalo's "The Whole Shebang" could easily pass as old school glam. The film was wonderful, and the soundtrack is certainly not pale in comparison!
Free Music Review: BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!... Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a little biased due to the fact that VG is my favourite film of all time. The soundtrack is so wonderful and caused me, about 3 or so years ago to undergo a complete personality change to reflect my nw found love of classic 70s performers like David Bowie, Biano Eno, Roxy Music and Iggy Pop. This soundtrack breathes new life into a almost forgotten music genre. Kudos to all involved with bringing the greatest music ever together on one CD. My only wish is that a second CD would showcase the original tracks and some of the other songs from the film like, Sebastian, Coz I Love You, The Fat Lady of Limbourg and Do You Wanna Touch Me. Viva La Goldmine!...
Free Music Review: Great. This kind of experience IS neccessary for the learng! Hit: 5 Stars
First of all, yes I know I spelled learning wrong; the other letters wouldn't fit, so there! This CD is soo good; I got it after loving the film, and I strongly reccomend it! My only criticisim [and its a big one] is that JRM's vocals aren't on the other songs he did in the film. Boohoo! The mix is a great one; glam rock at its best. As for JRM's vocals that made it; go for "Baby's on Fire" the first song you try! I could[and have] listened to that one 7 times in a row, many days...and still love it! I quot it incessantly. Enjoy! ---Baby's on fire/and all the instruments agrree that/her temprature's rising/But any idiot would know that/
Free Music Review: A WHOLE LOTTA FUNKY KICK A** GLITTER TUNES Hit: 5 Stars
THIS SOUNDTRACK IS A GREAT FASCADE OF 70S TUNES. ALTHOUGH I WAS DISSAPOINTED TO NOT SEE THE NEW YORK DOLLS OR BRIAN ENO'S " DEAD FINKS DONT TALK" AS THIS WAS A INTREGAL PIECE OF MUSIC FROM THE FILM, AND WITH DAVID BOWIE REFUSING TO LET TODD HAYNES USE ANY ZIGGY STARDUST MATERIAL I DID WITH DRAW FROM THE MOVIE. ALTHOUGH WITH THE ADDED BONUS OF MODERN DAY TAKE ON 70S GLITTER PULP ADDATION TO THE GLITTER DAYS WAS A MUST TRACK ON VELVET GOLDMINE. THIS WAS THE BEST ROCK N' ROLL BIO-OPIC SINCE OLIVER STONES THE DOORS. USING EWAN MCGREGORS AND JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS OWN VOICES ON THE SOUNDTRACK A TECHNIUQE SINCE THE DOORS.
Free Music Review: There is No Better Accounting of Glam Hit: 5 Stars
One of my all time favorite movies. Accurately chronicles the Glam era. So many specific references to my idol, David Bowie and others (Iggy Pop, Marc Bolan, etc). Remakes of the songs are done very well as backdrops to the story - none better than Brian Eno's "Baby's On Fire" scene. Incredible very early performances by Christian Bale, Ewan McGregor and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. A classic and must have for any student of rock and roll.
