Free Music Review: Don't Be Fooled...
Hit: 5 Stars

Now you might be thinking, "aren't the Vengaboys a cheap party music group?" That is wear you are wrong. Sure many songs are very dance influenced. Well actually not "influenced" but actually dance club tracks. Unlike "The Party Album" though, this album brings much more pop into it so the Vengaboys can expand to a bit of a younger audience who don't visit clubs, like myself, as I am only 13.

The album kicks off with "Shalala Lala" which was huge smash around the world and was accompanied with a very racy video, but also very good and humerous. The track is bit French sounding actually with French type sounds but still a pop/vocal song. Then you move into a more dance type song but still very pop. "24/7 In My 911" is an excellent song which will get you pumping! Next you go into a much more old school Vengaboys song! Its "Kiss(When The Sun Don't Shine)"! This song is much more dancey like "We Like To Party" or "Boom Boom Boom" and it is also the first single for America and is included on the Enhanced CD feature. Next is "Uncle John From Jamaica" which is very similar to "We're Going To Ibiza". It's not my favorite but it's very reggae and a fun Summer song. Now we get into a club track. It's the single that didn't do to great, "Cheekah Bow Bow (That Computer Song)". When it was released, it introduced a 5th Venga Cheekah who is supposedly singing. When this was performed, Roy would lip sync it as it is very synthisized, but it really doesn't even sound like a person singing. Anyways, its a fun song and is also included on the enhanced section. The video is cool though.

Now, we get to the second half of the album where on most albums, things go bad. A bit like "The Party Album" in my opinion but not on the "Platinum Album". It kicks off with "48 Hours" which has no vocals and is just a heavy club track. Then you go to "Your Place Or Mine" which again is kind of reggae inspired. It could have been better but still a good little song w/vocals this time. Next is the hilarious song "Skinnydippin'"! This song is great and would do really well if released as a single. As the lyrics go, "Get in the water now/take your clothes off/Get in the water now/That's what we love" how can you resist not loving this song?! It's awesome! Right after that, the Venga's give you a taste of a new song not released ANYWHERE else! It is "Take Me To The City" and was in the Charlie's Angels film somewhere but I never heard it. It wasn't on the soundtrack though because it was recorded too late. This is a good old Vengaboy dance track and is real nice. It's like "Boom Boom Boom" but not as good as BBB is my favorite. Next is the first Vengaboys ballad ever which only Kim really sings in. The video is also included in this CD. It's a real nice ballad and when it was released in February, it was said to be the LAST Vengaboys release EVER but it obviously isn't because here they are now touring and releasing in the U.S.! After that, the closing comes, and "Opus 3 In D#" comes. This is a club track with no vocals that is like 7 minutes long and I have never gotten through.

All in all, this album is great! It's awesome for people who are clubbers, or for young ones like myself who enjoy good pop/dance music, or for anyone who wants to have fun this summer or any time and wants to throw a party!

Free Music Review: Way better than The Party Album!
Hit: 5 Stars

Sure, The Party Album was good, but too many of the songs sounded the same, and it was a very club-like record. The thing that I like about The Platinum Album is that there are MORE vocals and it's not just repeating the same verse over again. This album also goes into a pop direction unlike The Party Album, which was very trancy and techno-feeling. There are also only two instrumental tracks on this cd. Here's a review:

1. Shalala lala- This song is a very happy, poppy song with a great chorus.

2. 24/7 In My 911- This song is my absolute favorite! A great dance song!

3. Kiss(When The Sun Don't Shine)- This is a classic Vengaboys song- perfect dance beat.

4. Uncle John From Jamaica- This is a very reggae feeling song with just a hint of dance music.

5. Cheekah Bow Bow (That Computer Song)- This song annoys me because I think that the idea of a computerized member is just downright retarded.

6. 48 Hours- I think I only listened to this song once- it's all instrumental and it just bores me to tears.

7. Your Place Or Mine?- This song has a slower pace, but it's still a very bouncy, good, poppy song.

8. Skinnydippin'- This is also a Vengaboys classic! Great dance beat with cool lyrics!

9. Take Me To The City- Another Vengaboys classic- this song is very similar to Skinnydippin' and Kiss(When The Sun Don't Shine).

10. Forever As One- The first ballad with only Kim's vocals- this song is very sad.

11. Opus 3 In D#- This is another instrumental that is like 7 minutes long that I also listened to only once. How did they come up with a name like that?

When you put the cd into your computer, a screen pops up with 5 options- watch the Kiss(When The Sun Don't Shine) video, watch the Forever As One video, watch the Cheekah Bow Bow (That Computer Song) video, download a screensaver (which is very spiffy) or click on the option titled The Platinum Album and a built-in screensaver comes up so that you don't have to open one on your computer. The new cd also features a new member- Yorick- who was Robin's best friend- who left for a solo career. Sadly, Denice and Yorick have now left and have been replaced by a man and a woman named Mark and Lily.

Free Music Review: Vengaboys rule in the USA!
Hit: 5 Stars

Last night, July 14, 2001, I saw this band put on one of the greatest shows of all time in Cincinnati. In the same area where the riots occurred, Vengaboys appeared at Club Electra and performed all the great songs from this album. They rocked! They partied! They danced! They ruled! Kim promoted this album! The audience went nuts! 3,000 fans went crazy!

For those Americans who still have not heard about the Vengaboys, they are a four member Dance/Pop act who live in Amsterdam, Holland, the same country that Alice Deejay is from. The Vengaboys are two girls (Denice and Kim) and two guys (Roy and Yorick). Denice is from Hungary, Kim is from Brazil, Roy is from Trinidad and Yorick is from Holland. Kim is the lead singer, but what makes the act truly superb is the incredibly vigorous synchronized dancing that the band puts on. It is fabulous! They all go flat out! There is no cuteness; there is no forced sexiness; there are only straightforward actionpacked dance moves. The girls dance as strongly as the guys. Forget "Brittany" ,forget "In Sync" forget "Christina" forget "Backstreet Boys". This act is the future.

The Platinum Album is their greatest album so far. Standout songs are "ShalalaLala", "Kiss when the Sun don't Shine", "Uncle John from Jamaica", all of which they performed last night. Two other good tunes on the album are "48 Hours" and "Take me to the City". All the songs are influenced by the unusual techno/trance production values that are now coming out of Holland, but all songs retain a strong pop influence. DJ Danski and Delmundo produce this album, and they must have been influenced by DJ Jurgen who is an expert in the field of trance music.

I want to see the Vengaboys on Late night TV. Jay Leno, wake up! Letterman, this band will increase your ratings! It has to happen! Make it soon!

I strongly recommend this album. A few of the songs could be considered weak, "Cheekah Bow Bow" for example; but the hits with the fun attitude, overpower any weaknesses.

Free Music Review: The hottest dance album of summer 2001!
Hit: 5 Stars

Over a year since "The Platinum Album" was released in Europe, the Vengaboys have moved here to the US and brought this hit album to American audiences. Featuring the worldwide hit singles "Kiss (When The Sun Don't Shine)", "Shalala Lala", and "Cheeka Bow Wow (That Computer Song)" this album is defenitely worthy of US club fame. Venga-fans are hoping "The Platinum Album" will rock clubs from New York to Honolulu just like the Vengaboys did back in 1999 when their first US singles "Up And Down" and "We Like To Party!" became #1 club smashes.

On the band's Gold-selling debut, "The Party Album" the album was split into two parts- the first 7 tracks being upbeat, energetic party anthems, and the remaining songs being hardcore house-trance spins. On "The Platinum Album", it is upbeat all the way through. From "Shalala Lala", a slower pop song reminiscent of a summer in Spain, to "Skinnydippin"- a fast-paced dance song very similar to "Boom Boom Boom Boom!". Even the two non-vocal tracks "48 Hours" and "Opus 3 In D#" (which are both the same as the Alice Deejay tracks "Everything Begins With An E" and "Who Needs Guitars Anyway?" with only a slight difference in melody arrangements) are upbeat and club-happy, unlike the droning dark sounds of previous Vengaboys instrumentals like "You And Me" and "Paradise". "The Platinum Album" is one of the hottest dance albums to hit the shops in years and it is destined to become a favorite and a true hit for the Vengaboys- the best dance group of the new millennium.

Free Music Review: Fantastic Pop/Techno/Trance album from Holland
Hit: 5 Stars

Vengaboys are back with this (their 2nd) album, and they are BETTER THAN EVER. Sure, their PARTY ALBUM was Great, but I think it indulged too much into the hardcore Techno genre (half the tracks were done in this style).

Well THE PLATINUM ALBUM is more DANCE/POP oriented. There are three big (but GOOD) exceptions though.

Tracks 6 & 11 are done in an INSTRUMENTAL TRANCE style. 2 VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL compositions. If you liked FRAGMA or ALICE DEEJAY, you will love these.

Track 10 is an Extremely BEAUTIFUL and SLOW LOVE BALLAD, with great melody and vocals.

As for the rest of the songs, they are simply AWESOME dance/pop songs. Track 5 is a very CATCHY and INTERESTING TECHNO/POP song about Safe Sex, that uses computer terms to talk about dangers of unprotected sex. It tells you a story.

Overall, this is a very well-rounded album, that presents us 11 GREAT songs done in various music styles. I truly hope Vengaboys' songwriters and producers (Dj Danski and Delmundo) will create another great Vengaboys album, and SHOW THE WORLD THE TRUE MEANING OF DANCE.
