This album and band was the first volley from the post-Living Colour Vernon Reid, and sadly, there has been very little if any follow up. Like virtually all of his work, this studio recording failed to capture the vital electric creativity of this band in concert, but it came closer than all of the LC albums. The compositions are lovingly crafted, and executed with great elan. The studio embellishments, including vocal dubs, raps, and electronic pastiches, augment the hard driving guitar assault. I've described it as "Led Ellington," and that pretty much captures this tantalizing mixture of traditional and new musics. I recently saw the re-formed LC, but they aren't quite at the level of coherence they achieved around Time's Up. Let's hope Vernon gets busy again soon.Free Music Review: Nice with the sixstring

Vernon Reid demonstrated with Living Colour why he was one of the world's best rock guitarists and on this '96 CD, you get to see him really turn loose. This is an intelligent fusion of Jazz and rock that has a quirky hiphop vibe to it. Don Byron's acidic clarinet is wonderful and the guest vocalists are sharp. Fans of Miles' early seventies releases should check this to see how that music translates to the new century.Free Music Review: jazzy fusion metal with mind and soul

perhaps not every track is great but what not to like about "you say he's just a psychic friend" (experimental alto sax warbling atop fat, bouncy guitar riffs), "my last nerve" (tense but melodious tone poem), "mysterious power" (tongue in cheek, fun mysticism). Evocative, eclectic, fun.
