Free Music Notes for A Charlie Brown Christmas: The Original Sound Track Recording Of The CBS Television SpecialFree Music Review: The best all-around Christmas CD ever! A real crowd pleaser! Hit: 5 Stars
I have loved the Peanuts gang since I was a little girl and I still do, and the music of Vince Guaraldi encompasses the very essence of Christmas, before corporations and commericalism took over! Shame! Shame! This CD brings people of all ages together and can really transform people into the holiday spirit without the harsh, revamped old Christmas melodies sung today by no namers being thrown in your face when you walk into any retail store. The Peanuts CD lifts the spirits gently while one shops and the melodic masterpieces that Vince Guaraldi brings to each song is a treasure in itself. If there was ever a Christmas CD to spend money on, then this is the one! It is worth every penny spent and a CD that people of all ages love. This CD is also a CD that has been passed down in my family for decades and is played every Christmas morning. A great stocking stuffer too! I can't say enough about this mini masterpiece except that I feel gifted to listen to it every year! How can you not love the CD just for Snoopy alone?! A bit of nostalgia, especially around the holidays always bring sunshine into one's life and who doesn't want that? That alone hooks me and makes me happy! Hooray for Charles Schultz and Vince Guaraldi!
Free Music Review: Good Grief Charlie Brown! It's May! Put the Christmas Music Away! Hit: 5 Stars
I can't believe it's late May and here I am listening to A Charlie Brown Christmas that I just got in from an Amazon seller in anticipation of this upcoming Christmas season... but like most people my age, it's almost the definitive icon of Christmas memories no matter what the actual season may be.
I just had to crack the seal and play it. Now, here I sit listening to the entire thing. No fancy words can describe it but anyone who grew up with it knows exactly what I'm talking about... just two or three notes of that piano and the magic happens and then you're 8 years old again and plopped down in front of that grainy, rabbit earred t.v. set waiting for Charlie Brown to come on way back in the 'it only runs once a year' days. (remember those?)
Man - there wasn't any WalMart, no Target and do ya remember having that same crappy Christmas tree that Charlie had?
Buy this c.d. if ya remember it and for sure buy the video for your kids so they won't grow up with some idiot Power Rangers Christmas of Doom [...]....
Hey - if this music doesn't put you in the mood for Christmas, I hope someone gives ya a shovel for Christmas because you're already dead from the shoulders up.
Free Music Review: Good Grief! This CD is great, but it's not complete! Hit: 5 Stars
For anyone who grew up watching the animated television special on which this album is based, and was lifted into a winter wonderland of bliss by its catchy jazz score, this CD is a must. However, in order to have in your collection ALL of the music heard on the TV program, it's necessary to supplement this album with another, thankfully also available: "Charlie Brown's Holiday Hits," which contains, among others, two tunes that have always been omitted from the "Charlie Brown Christmas" soundtrack, but which were essential themes employed in the special (see my review of the "Holiday Hits" album for more info on these cuts and how they were utilized). Perhaps this pair of tunes was never included on the original LP due to time/length considerations, and subsequent releases of the title on CD simply followed the LP lineup and never used them despite the compact disc's longer running time. Nonetheless, the good news is that they are available now on the CD mentioned above, and true aficionados of this special and its Vince Guaraldi-penned music can rejoice in much the same manner as Snoopy did dancing to the "Linus and Lucy" melody atop Schroeder's piano.
Free Music Review: Celebrate the Season and Spirit of Christmas with This Jazzy Sountrack Hit: 5 Stars
This soundtrack is a holiday standard. It's as standard as Jingle Bells or White Christmas. Just listening to the songs brings back memories of A Charlie Brown Christmas. Each one depicts something special. It's the next best thing to wathcing the film. O Tannenbaum reminds you of Charlie Brown's scrawny little tree. Christmastime is Here reminds you of that first scene of skating children. Skating reminds you of the scene of children catching snowflakes. The lively jazz of Christmas is Coming and Linus and Lucy leave you dancing and remebering that scene of dancing children. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing reminds you of that beautiful ending.
Vince Guaraldi has brought out the mood of Christmas with jazz. His songs will stick for all eternity even though his life was cut short in 1976. His music though have inspired such jazz greats as George Winston, David Benoit, and BB King.
This soundtrack is an essential to any holiday party or any yule log. It may not be classical, pop, hip hop, rap, or rock, but the jazz music is loved by young and old alike.
And it will live on forever, for it is something special and something that should be treasured.
Free Music Review: The Greatest Christmas Album Ever Hit: 5 Stars
When it comes to Christmas albums, Vince Guaraldi's soundtrack to "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is IT. This CD gets played in my house every holiday season, and I've never tired of it. It's true that listening to this Christmas classic will take you back to your childhood, with images of the classic 1965 cartoon & it's characters playing in your head (especially during the Peanuts signature instrumental, "Linus And Lucy"). But more than that, Vince Guaraldi's music is just plain wonderful, bouncy & nice. Whether doing marvelous light-jazz rearrangements of "O Tannenbaum," "What Child Is This," or "Greensleeves," or serving up his own classic compositions, not only "Linus And Lucy" but also "Christmas Time Is Here," "Skating," and "Christmas Is Coming," Guaraldi simply amazes with his sparkling touch of the piano keys. Filled with tremendous, glowing warmth, Vince Guaraldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is, in my book, the greatest Christmas album of all-time. It's a definite must-buy addition to your holiday music collection, and a Christmas album to treasure forever.
