Free Music Notes for Heart And Soul: New Songs From Ally McBeal Featuring Vonda Shepard (Television Series)

Free Music Review: A Great CD!
Hit: 5 Stars

What can I say? I'm a devoted fan of the TV show and probably being a great fan of the music on that show it was great to hear there's a SECOND soundtrack. The music on this show is great! I mean you don't even have to be an Ally fan to enjoy this great music. Some of the songs Vonda Shepard wrote are soo amazing, like Read You Mind, 100 Tears Away, Baby Don't You Break My Heart Slow, This Is Crazy Now and I Know Him By Heart! Those songs are so amazing to listen too, ever since I got this from my friend on Tuesday I've been listening to it, It's now Christmas Eve and I'm still not sick of it nor will I ever be! A great collection of songs for anything! It's just great to hear the songs and remember the episode you hear it in, like "I Know Him By Heart." When Ally had that case about the woman who made up this man in her Journal and how she always had this perfect man in her mind of the guy she always wanted and it touched home for Ally because she always had that idea of the perfect man and she was afraid that she'll never meet him and that she will have to settle for less like that woman did! HA! GREAT CD! Ally Fan or Not!

Free Music Review: Collection of Introspective originals and covers from Vonda
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great collection sung by a relatively unknown singer. Her songwriting is highly commendable on "100 Tears Away" (one of the best songs on this album) and "Baby Don't You Break My Heart Slow". Covers like "Crying", "Sweet InSpiration", "To Sir, With Love" and "Vincent" are also highly listenable. What strikes me is her strong voice and ability to sing a song almost better than the original. She is definately refreshing and I am so sad that we won't be able to witness her artistry on "Alley" anymore, since it has just been announced it is canceled. Get this record and you won't be dissapointed, something to listen to on a cold winter night or just driving down a highway. I am so glad I took a chance on this recording.

Golden 5:
1) 100 Tears Away
2) Baby, Don't You Break My Heart Slow
3) Vincent
4) To Sir, with love
5) This Old Heart Of Mine

Free Music Review: Best of 3....
Hit: 5 Stars

I go way back with Vonda Shepard, and I started watching "Ally" when I read an early piece that talked about her music and the old pop standards favored by David Kelly. "Heart & Soul" was fine, and the 3rd CD is just starting to grow on me (Sting & Al Green on the same CD? How could it fail?). But this is my favorite and the only one I rate a 5. The "soul" of the pieces drills through the whole effort, with the key songs being "Crying" (better than Don McLean, not quite up to Roy Orbison's falsetto) and a new effort, "Baby Don't You Break My Heart Slow" with heartbreaking harmony between Vonda and Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls. Woven together well, a collection of old songs made new by Shepard, with her lush voice and excellent song backdrops. Great CD for a long trip!

Free Music Review: My newfound idol
Hit: 5 Stars

Hi, about a week after I first litened to this album, Vonda came to Ireland and I just HAD to see her. I've had the first Ally CD for about a year and listen to it all the time. After seeing her live, however, I completely idolise this woman. This CD is wonderful. Her vocals are stunning, the backing music funky, and the songs inspiring. This is an album for people like me who love to crank it up real loud and sing along at the top of my voice. You get such a kick out of soulful songs like "Sweet Inspiration" and "To Sir With Love", and there are few single people who can't identify with the beautifully simple and heartfelt "I Know Him By Heart". I hope she soons comes out of the Ally McBeal shadow and is recognised for her own wowing talent.
