Free Music Notes for Songs From Ally McBeal Featuring Vonda Shepard (Television Series)Free Music Review: The voice of the Soul - Brilliant!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the advert after an episode and the next day it was on my CD player. This is a fantastic album, whether or not you have heard of Ally McBeal. The title track "Searching my Soul" has punch and is inspiring. The depth of the words in "Just ask the lonely" may lead you to regret the time you said "no" mercilessly when someone asked you out, but you vow to yourself that you won't do it again. Then again, that depends on the person asking! It does bring on feelings of loneliness to the single person. "Just Walk Away Renee" will always remind me of the Kick Boxing episodes. Good synopsis! "Hooked on a Feeling" is an upbeat song, guaranteed, to put a smile on your face any morning. My favourite would have to be "Tell Him". As for knowing a lot about love, Vonda, I'm afraid to say you may be wrong in this case: Telling a man that would surely scare him away!?!? "In the Wildest Times of the World" is a wishful song. It invokes a feeling of being in a log cabin at Christmas with a man you've admired for ages and have never had the guts to admit.Well, that's what it does for me, anyway. I had vowed to myself that it was a question I would never ask a man and "Will you Marry Me?" does not change my mind. Another upbeat song, it has a catchy tune which is hummable at the most embarrassing moments, especially when you see the man of your dreams!! "The End of the World" is a weepy and my heart goes out to anyone who has just parted from a loved one! Not a bad cover. Speaking of which I actually prefer this version of "Kiss" to that of Cher. Album of 1998? Vonda, you have my vote!
Free Music Review: A fun-filled party from start to finish Hit: 5 Stars
Those of you obsessed with dancing babies, Fishisms, and being haunted by Al Green will no doubt fall in love with this release, the first volume of the soundtrack to the hit television series "Ally McBeal." Choosing some of the best songs performed by Vonda Shepard during the show's first season, the album has an energy and spirit that are nothing short of irresistible.Whether she's belting out the likes "It's in His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)" or gently caressing a classic ballad like "You Belong to Me," Vonda Shepard's interpretative skills are in top form here. In the hands of a lesser singer the songs she's handed for each episode could easily sound like a karaoke-fest; however, Vonda's warm vocal personality and obvious affection for the material makes them individual statements in their own right; it's very telling that Vonda's fabulous version of the 60's girl-group hit "Tell Him" gets just as much audience enthusiasm at her concerts as any of her originals. Speaking of originals, we're treated to the full-length version of the show's theme song, "Searchin My Soul," not to mention an infectious rocker by the name of "Will You Marry Me," boasting one of Vonda's strongest hooks. All in all, whether you've a taste for killer renditions of classic pop tunes or a tasty handful of Vonda Shepard originals, "Songs from Ally McBeal" is a treasure for fans of Ally, Vonda, or music in general.
Free Music Review: The best! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD in 1998, but until today I had not written a review about it. I'm a fan of Ally Mcbeal and this first soundtrack of the show is certainly the best one. Vonda Shepard is a gifted and brilliant singer and I've become her fan as well after I saw her performing in the show. "Searchin my soul", the opening theme, is incredible and good to be listened when you're feeling blue, because you immediatly connect it to calista flockart. "Hooked on a feeling", the 70's hit recorded by Vonda, became more powerful in her voice and even more funny because of ally's dancing baby (only fans will understand). "It's in his kiss" is a very joyfull song and, since Cher first recorded it, no one dared to make another version (I actually appreciate Vonda's). There are also romantic themes in this soundtrack, such as "I only want to be with you", "the end of the world", which makes you think about people who have come and gone in your life.I must say that I love all the 14 tracks and I really recommend this CD, not only for ally mcbeal's fans, but also for all those people who have a taste for good music.
Free Music Review: Great Music for the BEST Show!! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm probably one of the only lawyers who loves "Ally McBeal" and watches it religiously. It's funny, mostly because it makes fun of our profession. But it's got a serious soul and truthfulness that just brings me back week after week.Vonda Shepard's work didn't really enthuse me at first. But these days, I'll pop this CD into my computer at work and just get into the music and life becomes easier. "Searchin' My Soul" is just a perfect song for those times when you need a Pick-Me-Up. The CD is well-balanced, with some fast songs that can get you to bounce a little despite a bad day. It's also got some slow songs, good for relaxation on the couch with a mug of steaming cider, snuggled next to that special someone. Generally, this is good music all around. And the fact that every song will bring back memories of your favorite "Ally" episodes is just an amazing benefit!! If you haven't seen the show, you really should. And if you haven't heard the soundtrack, you're missing out on greatness!
Free Music Review: Vonda Shepard hooked me. Hit: 5 Stars
Vonda Shepard hooked me exactly three minutes and twenty-six seconds into The Wildest Times in the World. Right there, after what I thought was the final chorus, where the song could just as easily end, it turns on a dime. Vonda sings "Hey, Hey, Hey," the violin's come up, and the piece slides into a long and mellow finale. The hook went in deeper with each repeat. From an uncluttered opening the piece tumbles beautifully into a section that carries you along like a big car on the boulevard. It's not the limousine feel of Sinatra's Its Was A Very Good Year -- the one that happens when the viola's pluck their little half-notes. No, this is more precisely the feel of highway 395 coming into Lone Pine, CA in late August. Oh yeah, its sweet, but I'm telling you, there really ought to be a law -- once they are inside your head, you cannot get those Hey-Hey-Hey's out! Wildest Times is one fine tune.
