This CD touched my soul in the way that I needed at the time I bought it. The songs on this CD follow me throught my day. I feel especially connected to "Searchin' my Soul" and "Maryland". The line in "Maryland" that grabbed me the most was, "I'll never be what my mama wanted me to be, and I'll never see what my daddy's dreams were, but I can sing." I don't know why but there is something about this CD that gets right into my heart, pulls up a chair, sits down, and makes itself at home. Buy the CD if you haven't already. I love to listen to Vonna's versions of old, wonderful songs, (and her new material too), and I want to get more CD's by her.Her music caught my ear & attention and helped me to become addicted to the TV show-Ally McBeal. She's sensational, and I wish I could hear her play live in the same kind of setting (Night Club) that she plays on the TV show, not in a big Civic Center...I want to be able to see her when I hear her perform...perhaps a nightclub "unplugged" video is in order. This CD is unsurpassable. You don't have to be an Ally Mcbeal fan to enjoy the music. Vonda Shepard recreates some touching oldies with lots of heart and soul. Walk away Renee, Ask the Lonely, The End of the World and Maryland are excellently done. It's mood music- there is a variety of songs to hear when "you're world is empty and blue " and upbeat, lively songs (Tell Him, Hooked on a Feeling) to hear when you're in a joyful state. Its soulful. Vonda's voice calls up your first love, your sad memories, nostalalgia and that's the essence of the music behind this CD. So if you like soul, hear this.Free Music Review: VERY GOOD!

That album is great... And premits us to see how Vonda Shepard is talented and how her voice is Wonderful!She's a marevelous singer/songwriter!
And God, She's so good on stage... It's very great to see her in concert! She's not (as someone said) a simple singer on a bar. She's really talented and really can sing! See her live... You'll see. She really can sing and can make people feeling good during her shows! She's even better live than on the CDs. You'll see when you got the LIVE ALBUM (will probably come out next spring!)

Free Music Review: An excellent album even if you don't watch the show

I saw the video for "Searchin' My Soul" and loved it, so I bought this album without hearing any other songs. I never thought I could actually listen to some of the older songs, like "Hooked On A Feeling," or "Tell Him," but I love the way Vonda Shepard sings the songs. The older songs don't sound like "oldies." My favorite songs, in addition to the ones I just mentioned, are "The End of the World," and "Maryland." You don't even have to like the TV show to enjoy this album. I want to know what else Vonda Shepard has coming for us!!
