Free Music Review: Goodnight and joy be to you all
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow, what a CD! One of my favorites of all time, this is a fantastic bit of Irish music. I agree with all the people below that "The Parting Glass" is worth the whole thing. What a song! It will bring tears to your eyes because of its perfect beauty and simplicity. However, just because they have one heavenly song doesn't mean that the others are any less wonderful. The Fisherman's Blues, performed by Mike Scott and the Waterboys, is a rolicking bit of Irish rock. The Lotto Man Cometh contains a beautifully haunting whistle descant, and Michael's Ride will make you get up and dance very single time you hear it. An Angel Will Cry is a gorgeous duet between a bagpipe and a violin. These are just a few of the 15 fantastic songs on the album! If any reader out there is curious about the music being too much of a backround soundtrack, I can honestly say that only one comes even close to being so. Each one stands alone.

Free Music Review: An aural feast that is by turns melodic, rowdy, & poignant.

Shaun Davey has assembled a magnificent group of artists for this extraordinary soundtrack. I'm eagerly awaiting the movie's arrival at a cinema near me, meanwhile, I bought the CD because I know Davey's work. He does not disappoint here. From the rousing opening track to the Waterboys' rugged "Fisherman's Blues", Rita Connolly's exquisite vocal work on "Hear Me" to the final "Parting Glass", Davey has used a myriad of talented Irish musicians and singers to weave a seamless, beautifully accessible soundtrack. "Waking Ned Devine" has quickly become a favorite in my Celtic music collection and Shaun Davey has a new creation that can stand proudly beside, "The Relief of Derry Symphony", "Granuaile", and "The Brendan Voyage".

Free Music Review: Loved the Movie, Love the Soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

We loved the movie and so bought the CD for the music. We love it as well. The music CD follows the movie well (the songs on the CD are the same as the ones in the movie, which isn't always the case with soundtrack CDs), even to the point of including the spoken eulogy for Ned Devine with the music played during the funeral scene. As a fan of Celtic music, this purchase was a no-brainer for me. My favorite song was the last one, played during the closing scene of the movie while they are standing on the hilltop raising their glasses to Ned, but the other songs don't disappoint. As I said before, if you liked the music from the movie, you will like this CD.

Free Music Review: Uplifting, inspiring and completely satisfying
Hit: 5 Stars

After watching this movie I knew I had to get the soundtrack. It is a tribute to the cinematographer as well as Shaun Davey. When I listen to the CD, the magnificent Irish landscape comes back alive in my mind every time I play it, which is almost daily. The CD ranges from traditional upbeat Irish folk to more mellow meditative music. Note: this is mostly an acoustic album, but if you liked the music and want to remember the mood you felt when you left the theatre ( If you are a fan of this movie, you know what I mean ) then short of popping the DVD into a large screen surround sound home theatre, this is the next best thing.

Free Music Review: "Let's all be Irish tonight!"
Hit: 5 Stars

A cinemaddict friend and I tossed between CENTRAL STATION (me) and NED DEVINE in our choice of the movie for the weekend: She won and I'm glad she did! And the soundtrack? It was on my mind before I reached the car and by Monday, I had ordered it through Amazon. The beauty and humor of this little village, its varied loves and friendships cross ethnic boundaries ... and the music joyously carries you along the crossing! The Japanese-American in me responded to the movie. Soundtrack is an audible memory book for a movie worth remembering. Jackie, Michael , Pig Finn and Maggie ... the whole loving lot of 'em!
