Free Music Review: Sit back and enjoy a bit of Irish shenanigans

"The Waking of Ned Devine" is a wonderful movie where the village in the Isle of Man has bought lottery tickets and hears the announcement that someone from that village won the grand prize.
The soundtrack is based on Irish folk and tells much of the story in song.
The prize winner has not come forward and now two of the men in the village try to win favor with whomever the prize winner could be. Here the music is crisp as the adventure begins and we see the various characters.
They have a big dinner, which they could hardly afford, invite all the lottery buyers and attempt to find who won.
At the end of the evening they are still in the dark as to who the winner could be and then realize that one contestant, named Ned Devine didn't come to the dinner.
They check his cottage and find him dead in old age with the winning lottery ticket in his hand and his TV still on.
Since there are millions of dollars to be won and Ned doesn't have any relatives, they agree for one of the characters to pose as Michael to get the money.
Now the lottery agent is coming to interview Ned Devine and give him the check so they must get all the townspeople to agree with the trickery. One lady, a shriveled shrew of a person wants much more than the share everyone has agreed to or she'll turn them in.
Should they give her more and everyone less?
This plays off on the various characters including what these relative modest income people will do with their share of the millions of dollars.
The soundtrack is excellent and can be enjoyed with or without seeing the movie first.
It's a wonderful movie that I would recommend owning and playing again and again.
Free Music Review: Beautiful instruments, not as beautiful voices...

After seeing the movie, I knew that I wanted to buy the soundtrack. Overall, it does not disappoint. Throughout the disc, Shaun Davey has done a masterful job interweaving instruments into quite a few beautifully composed tracks(especially #5). Davey's composition makes the majority of the disc quite stimulating. However, the vocals just aren't up to snuff. This reviewer found that in this case, the Waterboys should go back to just being Waterboys. Remove their vocals from this CD, and it is a 5 star soundtrack. Yet as stated earlier, with them, it is still quite a good buy. 4 stars, and definitely worth buying for the soundtrack to Waking Ned Devine.Free Music Review: A true beauty.

This is a soundtract that does not betray any expectation. No duds in the lot, each song has a unique personality and is well delivered. Good voices, excellent instrumentation. The last song puts to words a lovely old poem (the author of which I don't know) called The Parting Glass - it alone would be worth buying the CD.Free Music Review: Love the Waterboys!

Loved the movie and couldn't get the soundtrack out of my mind but to me the biggest joke of the whole movie was when the credits rolled and I found out that the whole thing was filmed in the Isle of Man and not in Ireland!!!!!!! I rarely buy soundtracks but was so intrigued with this movie and its music that I purchased it immediaterly after viewing the film. The best thing about it: listening evokes images of the movie. But it will prove enjoyable to anyone with a passion for Celtic music.
