Free Music Notes for Walk the Line

Free Music Review: Those who slam this obviously haven't heard it, or can't hear.
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the most exciting album I've purchased in a long while.
I am a professional musician (over 20 years) and I know when someone can sing. I've seen several posts saying that Reese can't sing, and I'm here to tell you that she most definitely can! In fact although I know I'll get a lot flack for this but I think she does a better job than June did. I know she doesn't have the Apalachian tone, but her pitch is on. She should have toned down the twang just a little on the beginning of Jukebox Blues, but otherwise it was wonderful. Joaquin did a fantastic job, I think it did allow him to express some of his darker side. I have started covering It Ain't Me Babe, since hearing it again. It did seem to me that the songs were better in the film, I don't know if maybe they recorded the soundtrack early on and re-recorded for the movie or if it was just the visual affecting it, but it is still a Great Movie and Great soundtrack. Love it , listen to it every day. I do Wish it had "Times A Wastin'" :(

Free Music Review: Great Soundtrack, Perfect Film
Hit: 5 Stars

If anyone caught the film Walk the Line last year, or even currently, then most of you probably own the soundtrack. Something about the film sticks with you, and it's no surprise that Johnny Cash and June Carter's songs can still live and breathe today, even if Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon are singing them.

"Get Rhythm" opens the soundtrack and moves a bit faster than Cash's previous recordings. In fact, Phoenix's vocals seem to have a new edge, as if we're feeling the same way Cash's audiences felt when he emerged on the scene long before. "It Ain't Me Babe" sounds polished, with the two (Phoenix and Witherspoon) literally dancing with themselves over the recording.

It's not all about Cash and Carter, though. Coming along for the musical ride are Shooter Jennings (Waylon's son) and Waylon Page, who brings a semi-decent Jerry Lee Lewis tune. Nevertheless, every performer on here fills the shoes of legends, and to their luck, they do it "swell."

Free Music Review: Not like the original, but maybe that's a good thing...
Hit: 5 Stars

It's interesting to read the review by the original Amazon.com editor. I thought that if you listen to early Cash and Phoenix, you will come away with the thought "Which one was that?" And there are only two reasons that a couple of the songs lack the edge that Cash put into them was that Phoenix hasn't almost destroyed his voice with drugs and alchohol. The other one is that Phoenix just didn't have the emotional connection to the song that Johnny would have had. Acting can only go so far. And after listening to Reese's interpretation of several of Carter-Cash classics, I have to say that I didn't mind the change. I have never been a fan of Carter-Cash's voice. She wasn't really that good. (Probably riled some people up with that one) And there are more than a few experts that would agree with me. Anyway, the movie was excellent, and with the exception of the Jerry Lee Lewis piece, I think this is a really excellent album.

Free Music Review: Amazing!!!! Leaves you wanting MORE!!!!!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I rented the movie, mainly out of curiosity since the actors were doing their own singing, but I was doubtful about the movie thinking it sounded more like the Sunday night movie, but I was amazed at how unbelievably awesome it was! The music was amazing and the performances by Witherspoon and Pheonix were incredible. I went out to Walmart at 7:30am the next morning to get the soundtrack and have been listening to it non-stop for the past three days. I think that Reese and Joaquin successfully avoided being impersonators of Johnny and June, instead bringing their essence to life. I highly recommend the CD. The only drawback being its just one CD rather than a box set. I sincerely hope that they both record more of the old country songs. I would especially love to hear more of Reese. I would definitely buy any and all albums these two ever release, together or independently.
