Free Music Notes for Walk the LineFree Music Review: Kickin' Soundtrack to an Oscar-contender movie Hit: 5 Stars
To those who are complaining about this not being the voices of JR Cash and June Carter Cash: Soundtrack albums are meant to be enjoyed AFTER seeing a movie in order to vicariously enjoy the movie over and over.
Joaquin Phoenix was hand-picked to play this part by the Man in Black himself, who I'm sure is looking down with pride on the result. Joaquin and Reese Witherspoon had to learn to sing and play their own instruments in order to portray the characters and did a fabulous job of it. Reese's joyful, bubbling personality is a wonder to behold. The director's choice of T-Bone Burnett to produce the music was a real masterstroke.
I just saw the movie last evening and haven't had time to get the CD yet, but I will at the first opportunity.
A great job by all concerned. We're sure to see them at the next Oscar ceremony!
Free Music Review: A Great Soundtrack From a Great Movie Hit: 5 Stars
After watching "Walk the Line", I was excited to find this excellent soundtrack. I was impressed by Reese Witherspoon's and Joaquin Phoenix's singing in the movie, and all of the great songs are included on this cd.
Classics such as "I Walk The Line", "Ring of Fire", "Jackson", and "Folsom Prison Blues" highlight this great collection. Jerry Lee Lewis' "Lewis Boogie" and June Carter's "Jukebox Blues" and "Wildwood Flower" round out the cd.
"Walk the Line" is easily one of the best movies I've seen, and this great cd brings the music of the movie alive. Phoenix and Witherspoon sound just like Cash and Carter, and they play their own insturments as well.
I give this cd my highest recommendation. Listen and hear some of Johnny Cash's and June Carter's songs performed to perfection by two of today's hottest actors.
Free Music Review: An Original Copy Hit: 5 Stars
It's a paradox.
It works, and there's no explaining it. I don't think you could replicate it in a million years. Things came together for this project that could not be engineered. Phoenix and Witherspoon become John and June. And they do so with the most profound respect and something clicks-and it cannot be bottled or subdued.
The soundtrack captures the very essence of the movie. Reece and Phoenix, both vocal novices (and Phoenix had never even held a guitar before) belt out tunes from Johnny and June that take you there...the music is as visceral, gutsy and raw as Cash. It's as effervescent and genuine as June.
John and June are smiling, let there be no doubt. If you ever loved them, this project will only cause you to drive them deeper into your heart.
I miss Johnny and June.
Free Music Review: Old Music, New Twist Hit: 5 Stars
This soundtrack is absolutely wonderful! After having the movie for years, and watching it over and over to hear the songs, I thought it about time to get the actual soundtrack.
Reese and Joaquin put a beautiful new sound on these old classics, and it works! I could listen to this CD over and over.
Now "Times A Wastin'" isn't on the CD, and I saw that someone gave it a bad review because of that. Well June wrote "Times A Wastin'" with her first husband, which is the main reason it's not on the CD. It's not a song that she was inspired to write because of Johnny; it was just a song that she said she'd never sing again, especially with another man, and she did sing it again, with Johnny.
This is an absolutely wonderful compilation of old songs with a new twist. I highly recommend it.
Free Music Review: A Must Have for Any Johnny Fan Hit: 5 Stars
I'll be the first person to agree that nothing is like the really Johnny Cash. However, Phoenix and Witherspoon do a great job with this set of new recordings. I recommend viewing the movie first as the music quality seems to be better in the film. Phoenix's voice gets a bit lost in some of the music on the soundtrack but overall he did a fantastic job.
I wouldn't be adverse to hearing another recording from this great duo!
As for reason why not to by this CD because the originals are available? Well, any true Johnny Cash fan would enjoy this CD and understand that Johnny himself would most likely have enjoyed it himself. The movie was fun, informative and the CD is just the thing to wrap it up afterward. I look forward to hearing about a few nominations this year at the Oscar ceremony
