Free Music Notes for Watchmen: Music from the Motion PictureFree Music Review: Disappointing Hit: 2 Stars
12 songs? Really?
I was amazed by the sheer amount of music this movie held. Great songs all over the place. As I sat there watching the movie I thought, man I need to get this soundtrack!
12 songs... not even all the good ones!
Lame to put out a $10 cd with a fraction of the songs that actually appear in the movie. I am waiting for the second volume where they feature the rest of the songs and want us to pay $20 for that one... milk it for all you can.
I would just skip this and just get the 2 or 3 songs you actually want.
Free Music Review: The Soundtrack that Almost Killed a Movie Hit: 1 Stars
Really? Really? This has got to be the worst-selected movie soundtrack of all time. The incredible inappropriateness of the placement of these songs in the film just about killed both the movie and the songs for me. I will forever be haunted. It'll be years before I'm able to listen to "Hallelujah" again without being reminded of an energy-sapping sex scene that was placed apparently to kill all momentum in this film. "Sounds of Silence" is an inarguably great tune that was turned into a horrible cliché by being clumsily inserted at top volume into a funeral scene. I thought Battlestar Gallactica's use of "All Along the Watchtower" was sappy, but Watchmen topped it. The inclusion of Philip Glass was bizarre. At least he's done some fantastic scores--but not his piece included on this soundtrack. If you want to get some good Glass action, get the pieces he did for Kundun.
At least they didn't include the hellaciously-overdone "99 Luft Ballon" on the disc. If you really want some of these tunes, download them. And watch Watchmen with the mute button on.
Free Music Review: Stolen music from Koyaanisqatsi Hit: 1 Stars
You will notice that this soundtrack contains a track credited to Philip Glass (used in the scene showing Dr. Manhattan's history). What is not mentioned is that Philip Glass wrote this music for another movie, Koyaanisqatsi, in 1982. I was disappointed and saddened that Watchmen used the music from Koyaanisqatsi to boost the dramatic impact of one of its scenes. It cheapened this beautiful music and dishonored the memory of the film it was written for. This unfortunate choice added to the overall unoriginality of Watchmen and made me sorry that so many moviegoers seeing it are unaware of the true source of the music.
Free Music Review: WHY SELL A SOUNDTRACK WITHOUT ALL OF THE SONGS??? Hit: 1 Stars
Where is 99 red balloons by Nena?? Where is Everybody wants to rule the world by Tears for fears??
I am sure there are more missing. This movie had an awesome sountrack from beginning to end. Now if we could just buy THAT, rather than this abridged version.
Free Music Review: Also disappointed by what's missing Hit: 1 Stars
The only song I wanted was First We Take Manhattan, also by Leonard Cohen... which plays in its entirety through most of the credits. Hallelujah barely plays to its first refrain in the movie and it made the soundtrack???
