Free Music Notes for MaladroitFree Music Review: a breath of fresh air Hit: 5 Stars
Thank God for this record. I don't know what was up with the green album (something about contractual obligations?) but MALADROIT is, in my humble opinion, the third Weezer album. Produced by the band, this album is way more raw, honest and original than the last one. I f you liked the the green album, and you let MTV dictate your taste in music, you might want to steer clear of this album. It might just be too thoughtful.Ok, so I'm a snob. But, seriously, this album can be as poppy, at times, as the blue album ("Keep Fishin'") and as emotionally stressful as PINKERTON ("Slob") but there's a new influence behind Rivers' songwriting - listen to this album and tell me he hasn't been listening to a lot of classic rock. The first single, "Dope Nose," is a great example of MALADROIT's overall sound. A little bit of pop, with catchy hooks of "Whoa's" and "Yeah's" and enough rock and roll play big stadiums with a laser show and pyrotechnics. If you love Weezer and were truly disappointed with the green album, do yourelf a big favor and grab this piece. It really rocks.
Free Music Review: Weezer is back and better than ever!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I am a long-time fan of Weezer, since the days of the Blue Album and "Buddy Holly". I thought that album was very good, but that Pinkerton was even better (it was of course a major failure). The Green Album was good, but not good enough to suffice after a five year wait! When I heard they had a new album coming out in May 2002, I was initially excited. But then I thought, what if they're becoming this cliched pop music hit machine (Hash Pipe, Island In The Sun)? I got Maladroit and was not disappointed at all! It's a great CD, with lots of really cool tunes. "American Gigolo" is a perfect opener, and the hit "Dope Nose" is great. My favorite song has got to be "Keep Fishin" though. The thing that surprised me the most about this CD, was how much harder it was. Lots of cool guitar riffs and fast beats. Other favorite songs are "Death and Destruction" and "Burndt Jamb". The album isn't quite as strong toward the end, but that's not putting it down. It just starts out so strong, that your expectations are really high. The only other thing I can say is to get this CD!!! You won't regret it. Weezer is the best!!!
Free Music Review: Weezer's back with yet another killer album! Hit: 5 Stars
Weezer has done it again! Maladroit is a beautiful composition of superb guitar and vocal bliss. Every song is a joy to listen to, over and over again. What can I say, I just love Weezer. After their first two wonderfully stunning albums, they made their less punky Green Album much to the disappointment of many hardcore Weezer fans. Even with un-punky nineties rock-in-roll songs, the Green Album blew the socks off of most releases in 2001. Maladroit blew the Green Album to smithereens. It is their best album ever. Even though nothing on it can top Weezer's number one single "Say it Ain't So", Maladroit is a darn good album. "Dope Nose" is a great guitar-driven all-around rockin song. "Burndt Jam" has a light smooth-flowing sound to it. "Love Explosion" is a catchy upbeat song. "Death and Destruction" has a slow emo feel about it. They're all good. If you were deterred by the Green Album, please do your self a favor a buy Maladroit. You will not regret it. It is well worth your money. Maladroit is a grand contemplation of Weezer wonderfulness not to be missed by any true Weezer fan.
Free Music Review: A great band continues to grow Hit: 5 Stars
Last year's fun, hook-infested "Green Album" was a nice work by Weezer -- I enjoyed it a lot. But ultimately, it was too short and the songs didn't have the sort of resonance as the band's previous release, "Pinkerton." Fortunately, "Maladroit" picks up where "Pinkerton" left off, with terrific results.Where "Pinkerton" was dark and approached some tough subject matter, this one continues the trend but is also more musically adventurous. The guitar riffs are stronger, and there's more than just a hint of...dare I say it..."metal" to the sound. There are the obvious joyous singles, particularly "Dope Nose," which has to be one of the most wonderful songs I've ever heard from these guys (the guitar riff apes Pinkerton's "The Good Life"). But the band continues to explore new territory with white-boy funk on "Burndt Jamb," bluesy ballads on "Death and Destruction" and an utter sense of anger and sadness on "Slob." Make no mistake, this is definitely Weezer, and fans of the band shouldn't be put off by the expanding sound. It's clearly the sign of a band finding new ground to cover.
Free Music Review: Long live Weezer Hit: 5 Stars
This album is so great. It's everything that a fan could have hoped for. It's original, and it's not just another "green" album. It sounds great, and it rocks. It's like a mixture of Pinkerton and the Green album. That means it has a glossy sound quality to it, but it's not as poppy as the green album. It has a lot more rock to it, and I think that's when Weezer is at their best. The song "Dope Nose" is another "Hash Pipe", but it's even more catchy and I think better (if that's possible). All together, this new CD is great, and anyone wanting to hear one of the best bands in popular music today needs to buy this and all other Weezer CD's. The band is great, and so is this release. I'm not sure, but if you buy the album close to it's release date, you're CD will be numbered and have 7 bonus videos. I don't know how many of these there are, my guess would be 1 million, but I have no idea. Mine is numbered 586,251 and I bought it the day it came out. But wether you're copy has videos or not, it's still a great album to listen to and enjoy.
