Free Music Notes for Weezer (Red Album) [Deluxe]

Free Music Review: Everybody Get Dangerous!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a huge Weezer fan, so when my friend got this CD for me as a gift I was giddy with delight. Of course "pork & beans" is a great song and in their own odd way they have created quite the positive song. "Everybody Get Dangerous", leave it to Weezer to write a song that says 'When I was younger I used to go and tip cows for fun, yeah Actually I didn't do that 'Cos I didn't want the cow to be sad' or one that compares a lost love to a dying spider going down the drain. The most entertaining song yet, though has to be "Troublemaker" I cracked up laughing (during work nonetheless) when I heard him sing 'Marryin' a beeyotch, havin 7 keeyods'. Every song on this album, while humorous, has some sort of message in them.(The other guys sing, too. Check out Pig, The Spider, King and Automatic.) Now, I know everyone keeps saying how Make Believe & the Red Album are not as good as the Blue Album; well, so what? The band is close to forty and a majority of their fans (who've loved them since the beginning) are in their mid 20s to 30s, so why would we want to hear music that is singing about stuff High Schoolers can relate to and if they were still singing that type of music they would have lost all their credibility. So, enjoy that Pinkerton & the Blue Album live on in rock history and take the Red Album for what it is, silly fun songs that have a message. So, to end this book of a review, this album is a great buy and sure to please Weezerholics everywhere!

Free Music Review: Another great addition to Weezer's catalog
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is a masterpiece. It is entertaining, personable, and catchy. The lyrics are fun and engaging, showing that Weezer has grown and is reflecting back on earlier times.

The red album shakes things up a bit so that it remains fresh and creative, yet overall (after listening several times) reminds me more of their debut (blue) album than any of their other works. I think they recapture the energy from their first release and add to it. The bonus songs on the Deluxe edition are worth the extra $3 and really add diversity. Both of the tracks 'Pig' and 'Spider' are deeper lyric-wise than typical Weezer songs. The same is true with 'The Angel and the One' which is a very simple yet powerful piece.

The first several tracks are upbeat with the typical catchy chords you expect from Weezer. Tracks 7, 8, and 9 give the other band members writing and singing credits, as well as the chance to switch up some instruments. These tracks are really very good if you can keep from comparing them to standard Weezer classics. The band is simply trying something new. I feel it is good and would only be dissapointed when they quit trying.

If you are one of the individuals that appreciates something from each of Weezer's prior works, then this one surely won't dissapoint.

Free Music Review: A rock "opera"
Hit: 5 Stars

The literal definition of opera is "work" and it's obvious that this is a collaborative work from the members of Weezer. There are so many different directions this album takes (as well as different voices) that it is evident why this leaves some Weezer fans scratching their collective heads or completely panning the album.

That said, I am giving this thing the full 5 stars it deserves. It goes full spectrum, from pop-tune to Queen-esque epic rock-opera to self-indulgent hype. Those of you deriding the 'awful lyrics' of some of the tunes have obviously never heard the phrase 'tongue-in-cheek'(and are not familiar with the mindset of Rivers Cuomo).

This is a mature, diverse, sprawling work that (hopefully) redefines what Weezer is. I'm a 41 year old who has been a Weezer fan from the start and the genius is that this album speaks to not only me but my 11 year old. You can't be all things to all people, but this effort by Weezer gives it a heck of an effort! Love it (and mucho love for 'Miss Sweeney'- it should've been a regular album track! Hope it gets played in concert here in Dallas!)

Do yourself a favor & give it multiple listens.

Free Music Review: The Great Sound of Weezer is Back
Hit: 5 Stars

It's been since 2005's Make Believe that we've gotten music from the LA faves Weezer and now they return with another self-titled release this one referred to as The Red Album. We had the Blue Album and The Green Album in the past which I loved and underground alternative rock fans loved as well. So after Make Believe it seemed the band was dying down and due to comments made by the band and singer Rivers Cuomo in interviews, I wasn't sure if they were going to remain together or go off with their own side projects like they've done in the past, but now they come forth with The Red Album.

I love the energy of this album because it brings back the fun and quirky nerdi-ness that got you to fall in love with Weezer in the early 1990's. It features songs like "Troublemaker" and "Everybody Get Dangerous" along with a rendition of EMF's "Unbelievable" (which we all remember, unfortunately). I especially love the first single "Pork and Beans" because it is classic Weezer. So again this album brings back the great sound of Weezer that was lost for a while but now has returned.

Free Music Review: Read
Hit: 5 Stars

Weezer has big brass balls! I waited awhile before I reviewed this. Like some reviewers, I thought Weezer might have fell apart. But, after listening carefully for awhile I found myself playing the album over and over again. The album really gets better which each listen. The bonus tracks on the deluxe version are okay. The problem for most fans will be that this album is so diverse and such a departure from their other efforts. It's clear the Weezer of old is dead. This band could keep writing the same Blue and Pinkerton albums over and over again, but they choose not to, they moved on and so should you. Nothing will ever compare to those first two albums as they are classic, but most artists can't compete with their early masterpieces. Would Nirvana really have toped Nevermind? I think not. The album is so different and they really took a risk. I give them credit and so should you. If you don't like this album, do yourself a favor and play it again. But, when you play it again stop comparing it to Blue or Pinkerton and you might suprisingly find yourself enjoying it.
